Letter from the Principal
Dear Shimek families,
Welcome to the 2017-2018 school year! We are excited for a new year of learning and look forward to seeing the students very soon. As the new principal, I have enjoyed getting to meet some of you over the past few weeks and at the Popsicles with the Principal event. I can’t wait to meet everyone else! The staff and community have been very welcoming and helpful as I have transitioned to my new role.
I come to Shimek after spending the last two years as the Assistant Principal at Northwest Junior High. Before that I taught at West High School for six years. My career has also taken me to Washington Community School District and Muscatine Community School District. I am a graduate of the University of Iowa and I love the Hawkeyes! I am married with two children, Mariah and Callie, who keep me busy with their dance, softball, and piano schedules. I am ready for this new chapter and feel lucky to be a part of this outstanding community.
This year at Shimek we will focus on continuing academic success and targeting interventions for our students’ academic and social/emotional needs. We will be working collaboratively to create a positive school culture where all students feel supported and welcomed. This is going to be a great year!
I would like to give a special thank you to Amy Brandt, our secretary, for getting everything ready for the school year and answering my many questions! And another special thank you to Effie Redig, our custodian, for all of her work to get the school ready for another year of students all by herself! We are lucky to have such dedicated staff working at Shimek.
I wish you and your students a rewarding school year. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns. See you at the Ice Cream Social on Monday, August 21!
