One Final English Landing PTA Meeting for the 2015-2016 School Year
We have just one final 2016-2017 PTA Meeting this year!
Monday, May 2, 2016: 11:45am to 12:45pm in the EL Flex Classroom
Dr. Jeanette Cowherd, Park Hill Superintendent, will present information regarding the approved Park Hill School District's future grade span plans for adjusting the current middle school concept to create 4 building sites with a grade 6-7-8 configuration beginning in the 2019-2020 school year.
Take Your Child to Work Day: Student Attendance CHANGE!
As families begin to make plans for Take Your Child To Work Day (April 28, 2016), I want to make sure you have accurate information regarding a CHANGE in how student attendance will be documented on this day.
In the previous school years, a letter has been sent home with all Park Hill elementary students stating that they would be counted present at school if a signed form and Take Your Child to Work Day reflection activity was returned. This will not be the case beginning this year since following this former practice would violate the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education guidelines regarding student attendance.
The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education language regarding daily student attendance states: “Students must be in attendance in an instructional capacity under the direct supervision of a certificated employee of the district to be counted for attendance purposes.” Therefore, if students are absent, for part or all of the day, on Take Your Child To Work Day (Thursday, April 28th), they will be counted as absent for the time they are not in school.
In Park Hill at the elementary level, we do not distinguish between excused and unexcused absences. Therefore, when a student is absent, it is simply counted as an absence. At English Landing Elementary School, we do not recognize perfect (100%) attendance. We strive for student attendance to be at or above 95%.
I encourage you to make the decision that best meets the needs of your child/family when determining if your child will participate in Take Your Child To Work Day (April 28, 2016). Please let me know if you have any additional questions regarding attendance procedures for Take Your Child to Work Day (April 28, 2016).
Sincerely,
Dr. Kerry Roe

Kindergarten Enrollment and Special Events
Starting elementary school in the fall as a kindergarten student is a very important time and we are excited to offer a few options in May to help incoming students and their families get ready for the first day of school on August 11, 2016!
Option 1: Incoming kindergarten students and a family member, can come to English Landing and visit while school is in session. This visit will give you and your child the opportunity to visit a kindergarten classroom, take a guided tour of English Landing, and see other components of a typical school day including recess/playground, specials (art, music, PE, library), cafeteria, health room, counselor’s office, and recovery room. The benefits of this option provides students the experience to visit English Landing when school is in session. Please contact Mrs. Gadd at gaddb@parkhill.k12.mo.us or by phone at 359-4370 to schedule a time to visit English Landing on one of these following dates/times:
Option 2: On May 9, 2016 from 5:30pm to 7:00pm the English Landing kindergarten team will host Kindergarten Round Up. This evening provides incoming kindergarten students and their families an opportunity to visit our kindergarten classrooms, meet teachers, and explore English Landing. The benefit of this option is that students and families will be able to explore English Landing during the evening time frame.
Please don't feel as if you and your child need to attend both options. Both options will provide similar levels of support to assist your child in transitioning to kindergarten for the upcoming 2016-2017 school year. You know your child best so please select the option that will best meet his or her needs.
We look forward to spending this time with you! If you have any additional questions, please contact the EL school office at 359-4370. Thank you!
