Fulmore Middle School Newsletter

Week of 12-14-2015

From the Principal's Office

Greetings Falcon Families,

The year 2015 is rapidly drawing to a close. Fulmore Middle School has enjoyed over 125 wonderful years of educating our future leaders and we look forward to many more rewarding years. Thank you, families, for being a major part of this success.

This week our Falcons choir and guitar all performed with enthusiasm and a bit of vibrato. It’s amazing to see and hear the beautiful talent our Falcons bring to our community.

Congratulations to our 7th and 8th grade girls’ basketball teams who have made it to the playoffs. Come out and show your pride by cheering for our Falcons.

Hats off to our PTA who treated us once again to an amazing holiday luncheon this afternoon in the Anderson Lounge. Thank you PTA for bringing us together.

Last weekend Fulmore hosted Austin ISD’s Choice Fair for all middle schools. Thank you to all our amazing Falcon ambassadors for sharing your experiences with Fulmore to our Austin community. We appreciate your time supporting Fulmore.

As we approach the Winter Break, school attendance is very important. Key instruction and projects will be covered these last remaining school days prior to the break so it is critical that your child be here every day and on time. In addition, please continue to encourage your child to read for 30 minutes every day. This holiday is a great time to give a gift that will last forever…a book. As always, thank you for your ongoing support of the Fulmore Middle School teachers and staff. You are appreciated!

Wishing you a terrific weekend,

-Lisa A. Bush

Note from Austin ISD:

As a result of the Trustees’ discussion at the November 9, 2015 Board Work Session, the administration will convene a planning committee to develop proposals for a magnet at a south Austin ISD high school to provide students greater access to advanced academic programming. Since a potential magnet may impact students district-wide, the committee will include parent representation from each vertical teams and current magnet programs.

TERMS:

Committee work will occur from January – May 2016. At least eight committee meetings and at least four community information sessions will occur. Committee members who are selected are expected to attend both meetings in January. Members are allowed up to two absences. Selected committee members are expected to attend both January meetings and attend and assist with at least one community information session.

Selected committee members will be notified by January 7, 2016.

If you have any questions, please contact Asha Dane’el at 414-1522 or asha.daneel@austinisd.org.

From the PTA

Fellow Fulmore Families:

We are in the home stretch, a week away from winter break! But before we briefly say goodbye, there are a couple of upcoming activities we'd like to share:

1. PTA General Meeting: 12/14 at 5:15 in the Fulmore library. Come hear representatives of Torchy's describe their plans and answer some questions.

2. Last teacher breakfast of the year: 12/17 at 7:45 in teachers' lounge. As usual, we thank Jo's Coffee for its generous support. This month, Whataburger will donate breakfast tacos & cinnamon buns. Parents of 6th graders are asked to provide fruit and other protein items to augment these generous gifts.

PTA sends out a big thank you to all members for your support this year as we inaugurated the monthly teacher breakfasts. These have been well-received and great opportunities for parents and teachers to interact. We will be continuing these into next semester.

Have a wonderful winter break and we will see you in the New Year! Best wishes to all!!
