A Message from the Principal...
What a wonderful week! Great weather, sunshine at student arrival, and a fantastic Veteran’s Day celebration. If you did not have a chance to watch the program, here is the link. Our Hazel Dell community is truly connected to the many veterans that have served our country.
Thank you families for your generous donations for the food drive. AND thank you for the generous participation in the Blood Drive. It was reported that the amount of blood donated during our Blood Drive was enough to save 75 lives! That is amazing!
How are we all doing on the Gratitude Challenge? Did anyone join me after the last newsletter? (Gratitude Challenge - note 3 things of which you are grateful each day for 30 days) Today is my day 15 - halfway through! My 3 things for today are noted above. I thought this might be a tough challenge ...but I am finding by keeping my lens on the positive it is not so hard. (Full disclosure: I once had the nickname “Polly” - for being a Pollyanna.).

Winter Assistance Available
Winter is fast approaching, and sometimes families find themselves in need of seasonal assistance for clothing and toys. Various organizations, churches, and individuals are looking to help students and their families. Please contact Beth Dossey, school counselor, at 317-773-2914 or email at beth_dossey@nobl.k12.in.us to let her know if you would like for her to share your confidential information with those specific organizations looking to assist Hazel Dell families.
Also, this year especially we are in need of sponsors. Please let her know if your business, group or family would like to sponsor a Hazel Dell family this winter.

MONTHLY MUNCHIES
Our staff at Hazel Dell is the best, and we want to continue to show our appreciation for them! The PTO is organizing monthly munchies to treat our hard-working staff to goodies once a month. If you would like to donate this month, use the link below to sign up. Drop your items off on the cart in the entryway November 15-19. Thanks for your help!

Cafeteria Menu Changes
The national food, product, and trucking shortages that are impacting stores and restaurants are also impacting our school cafeteria operations. These shortages can cause our menus to change unexpectedly at the last minute at any specific school and some students have expressed tears, frustration, and anger at these changes. Please know that we are doing what we can to provide meal options as planned, but families should expect occasional disruptions. Thank you for your patience as we work to best serve you.

A Note From Nurse Shafer
Let’s fight the flu together!
Influenza is a contagious disease of the respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs) that can lead to serious complications, including pneumonia and the worsening of other chronic health conditions. Flu symptoms may include fever, headache, extreme tiredness, dry cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, and muscle aches. The best way to protect your family from new influenza strains is to get vaccinated each year.
The top five most virus-contaminated areas in the home are:
1. Telephones (have you cleaned your cell phone lately)
2. Appliances such as the refrigerator and microwave
3. Faucets
4. Light switch and door handles
5. TV remotes
Follow good health guidelines: eat right, exercise, and get plenty of rest to help boost your immunity to fight the effects of colds and flu. Wash hands frequently, do the elbow cough, and disinfect hot spots at school, work, and home.
Let’s make this a healthy month for us all!
