LMS Weekly Reminders
for the Week of 5/2/21
Thank you!!
Last week, I made a personal plea for donations of disaster relief items following the eruption of the volcano, La Soufriere on the island of St. Vincent, my home country. A recent report from the Weather Channel shows added devastation caused by recent flooding and landslides which have also destroyed many homes and business.
Many of you have brought in goods from the list below or have contributed via this link which can be used to send things directly to shelters. Due to the recent developments caused by the floods, I will be accepting further contributions through May 7th.
Thank you for any assistance you can offer.
Last Week for Academy Applications
We have reached the final week of the SMCPS Academy Application season! This is a reminder to visit the academies page of the SMCPS website to learn more and to apply. Academy Applications will close on Friday, May 7th at 11:59 p.m.
LMS students who apply to the academies will be tested on May 12th and 13th. Further information will be available once the application process is complete.
Coming Soon...Field Day!!
We are thrilled to be able to hold our annual Field Day this year on June 9th and 10th (with possible rain dates of June 14th and 15th)!
In celebration of all of their hard work, our sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students will spend the day building community, showcasing their athletic talents, and reaffirming what it means to be a Leonardtown Jaguar. LMS Jaguars have proven themselves to be P.A.W.S.-itively phenomenal this year. They are Positive and Polite, Accept Responsibility, Work Hard, and put Safety First.
We welcome you to join us by volunteering on one or both of the event days or by dropping a donation off prior to our field day. Please note that to volunteer at one of the field day stations, you must be a registered volunteer through St. Mary’s County Public Schools. Please see this link if you are interested in becoming an SMCPS volunteer.
Please review the available slots by clicking on the button to sign-up! Questions about volunteering or donating may be directed to Ms. Shannon Maury, Volunteer Coordinator, at srmaury@smcps.org!
6th Grade Families, don’t forget...
Please be aware that Maryland school regulations require all 7th graders to have record of receiving a Tdap and Meningococcal (MCV) vaccinations on file at school. Now is the time to check with your doctor about these requirements, and send your child's updated immunization record to Nurse Robeson. If you have any questions, please contact Nurse Robeson at 301-475-0230 x 5 or krrobeson@smcps.org Our school’s fax number is 301-475-0237.

After a long school year, we look forward to building community, enjoying delicious food, and jamming to jazzy music from LMS' finest Jaguar musicians! We hope to see you there!
As the Warm Weather Approaches
...please remember that there are standards for appropriate dress when attending school. What is acceptable to wear to the movies and the mall might not always be acceptable for school. Based on some outfits that the staff and I have been seeing, please consider this a friendly reminder about our LMS expectations.
Clothes must be worn in such a way that the chest, midriff, pelvic/groin area, and buttocks are covered with opaque material.
Clothing displaying or suggesting profanity; sexual activity through graphic images, words, or innuendos; weapons; drugs/alcohol or drug paraphernalia; violence; or tobacco products may not be worn, visible, or displayed.
Head coverings may only be worn indoors so long as the student’s face is visible and it does not interfere with instruction or student safety.
Shoes must be worn that are safe for all activities.
- For girls who wear jeans that have cut outs--if those cuts are above the finger tips and exposing the thighs, then they are not within dress code. If these are worn, then they need to wear tights under them.
- Boys’ pants should be secured at the waist so that undergarments are not exposed. This too is a violation of the school system dress code.
