Late Romantic Era and Early Twentieth Century

A composer of the late romantic era and early twentieth century, Scott Joplin is worth studying for many reasons. He was viewed as the "King of Ragtime." One reason is that he composed many piano pieces. Some of his piece's were, "Maple Leaf Rag" and the opera "Treemonisha." Also, at age twenty-five he moved to Chicago where he organized a band to perform at the Columbian expedition. In addition, Joplin was very unique because he was black. Black people weren't really known to play music. As you can see, Scott Joplin is really interesting and is worth studying.
