Happy New Year and Welcome Back!

Welcome to 2016 Fletcher Foxes!!! As Hal Borland said, "Year's end is neither an end nor a beginning but a going on, with all the wisdom that experience can instill in us," and I think that is spot on for us as educators because even though our new year started in August, January is a great time for reflection and the chance to get excited about the rest of the school year. At this point, we are about to have a large amount of information on our students' progress from benchmark data to Reading 3D data. This data gives us an excellent opportunity to reflect on what worked well with our students that we should replicate moving forward and to think about what we need to change to help our students grow as much as they possible.

As we move into this part of the year, we must stay focused on teaching the standards, using our data, and in upper grades on building students' stamina for the EOGs. You all work incredibly hard every day and your dedication is why our students exceeded growth last year. Our resolution for the new year should be to continue to push our students to exceed growth again. We have just over half the year still ahead of us and that gives us plenty of time to do what is right for kids each day! Happy New Year!

New Standards?

Many of you may have been following the North Carolin Academic Standards Review Committee's work, which they completed in December. This is the group appointed by the legislature and the governor to review NC's reading and math standards. Below are two links to articles about what they did (or didn't do) for your information.

At the same time, DPI is continuing to conduct its normal standards review as well, which they do on any standards every five years. There is no information yet on DPI's recommendations.
