Don't forget to read to and with your children over the break. They should be encouraged to "read" as well - this can be making up their own story to fit the pictures, beginning to sound out simple words in the text, or finding sight words they know. myON is a web based application for California students to access books anytime. Who doesn't LOVE science videos??? This one was made just for the holidays - please enjoy with your kids.

Find a place in your home to display a glass jar. Cut up small slips of paper and place them next to the jar. Use the jar to collect special people, places, events, and memories that your family is thankful for. Find a time each week to add slips of Gratitude to the jar. Having a gloomy day or a challenging time as a family? Pull out the slips of Gratitude and read them aloud as a family as a reminder of all of your grateful moments.

We are seeing an increase in students being sent to school with coughs and runny noses. Although we recognize that this is a normal occurance this time of year, PLEASE keep your child home when they show these symptoms. It may seem mild, but coughs and colds make it very difficult for your child (and many of their classmates) to focus on the job of learning. A few days rest and plenty of fluids will ensure they are back to 100% and ready to learn.
