Message from the Principal
Dear Barbieri Families,
The day is here! On Monday we will welcome most students back to school! 548 students out of 664 will be joining us daily! We are as prepared as we can be and like before, will learn a lot from day 1, at which point we wil reassess and make any necessary changes to a our Barbieri back to school return plan. Please keep in mind that the changes being made to meals, dismissals, arrivals, etc. are due to physical distancing. Although classroom seating has shifted to a minimum of 3ft. we encourage our students and staff to maintain a 6 foot distance or more whenever possible.
On Thursday, the Barbieri COVID team became aware of one flagged positive student pool. The students in the pool, and their families, were contacted and asked to stay home. The classroom teachers of that pool were informed. Currently, we have close to 300 consent forms which means a little under 50% of our students are being tested weekly. We are striving for 100%! Please return signed consent forms to classroom teachers if your child is returning to school on Monday and is able to be tested. This is extremely important to the Barbieri school community. We want to stop the spread, keep our students in school, and keep our students and teachers healthy!

THINGS YOU NEED TO KNOW...
- 9:05AM-12:05PM will be asynchronous for our remote learners on Monday 4/5. Remote learners should log into their virtual classrooms at 12:05PM and follow their daily schedules.
- Breakfast and lunch will be served in the bistro and half of the gym to ensure a 6 foot distance.
- Three tents have been installed in the back of our school. The tents will be used for physical education, band, sage, etc. The use for every tent will be scheduled by administrators and while in use we will still maintain a 3ft distance, 6 ft. if possible and wear masks, even though the tents are outdoors.
- Snack time for grades 1, 2 and 5 will occur in the classrooms. Part of the class will engage in a quiet instructional activity in the library, supervised by a Barbieri family member on duty, while the other half of the class eats at a safe 6 foot distance in their rooms with their teachers. Students in classes will rotate.
- PARENT PICK UP for grades K-2 will occur y door 29! It will NO LONGER BE AT DOOR 1. Parents will park their cars, and walk around to to door 29 to dismiss their children in grades K-2. Students in grades 3-5 will come out and wait at the front of the building, by class, in line, in an orderly fashion, and be dismissed from outside. During inclement weather all students will be dismissed by door 29 and all will wait in the lobby/ auditorium. We will hope for VERY FEW days of inclement weather. :-)
- Attendance will still be taken THREE times a day as we still have remote learners.
- MyMedBot Attestation FORMS MUST BE SUMITTED each day. Each time students come to school with an incomplete form the administrative team along with the support team will call all of the families of those students. This is a long process that takes a lot of time as we will ask every question on the form to every family. If 100 students don't complete the form then we need to call 100 families. We need to support our teachers and students in classrooms, the bistro, gym, recess, etc. OUR STUDENTS AND STAFF NEED US NOW MORE THAN EVER WITH A FULL REOPENING SO PLEASE COMPLETE THE MY MED BOT FORM each day! THANK YOU SO MUCH TO OUR FAMILIES FOR MAKING A CONSCIENCE EFFORT!!!!!!!!!
- CHROMEBOOKS MUST BE CHARGED EACH NIGHT AT HOME! With more students in classrooms teachers will not have enough outlets or extension cords to have every student plugged in at all times. Our goal is to MINIMIZE SCREEN TIME for all in person learners but if there is a time where a student needs to log in, we would like the Chromebook to be charged! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP WITH THIS TOO! We recognize that with a full return all of our families are busy at home rearranging schedules and making new plans, THANK YOU!!!

From DESE Fall Reopening Facilities and Operations Guidance, July 22, 2020:
Books and other paper-based materials are not considered a high risk for transmission and do not need additional cleaning procedures.
Staff and students should be reminded that COVID-19 is transmitted through respiratory droplets that enter the body through the mouth and nose, not from inanimate objects. Students/Families Travel (April Vacation and more)
If your family plans to travel please adhere to the Massachusetts Travel Order. We want to ensure that all of the protocols are being followed to ensure a safe environment for all at our school. Any families/students who travel should communicate with our school nurses Omayra or Meghan as you will need to receive MEDICAL CLEARANCE from either of them to return to Barbieri School.
If your child is sent home or is told to remain at home due to Covid-19 symptoms, you must have clearance from the school nurses in the form of either a phone call or email response to negative test results. Please also keep in mind that your child should remain home until symptoms subside, even if they test negative for Covid-19.
