Cibolo Police Department and Kidd Kraddick's Kidd's Kids
Tonight, we partnered with Kidd’s Kids, the KiddNation - Kidd Kraddick Morning show (96.1FM), the @cibolofiredepartment, @cityofschertzems, @texasgamewardens, Stosh Boyle, Mayor of Cibolo, Councilman District 7 City of Cibolo Joel Hicks, McGruff the Crime Dog, @ciboloanimalservices, and the Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association to let Katie know she and her family won a trip to Walt Disney World.
We cannot thank Kidd’s Kids enough for making this seven-year-old’s dream come true.
We had the honor to present Katie with a trip to Walt Disney World made possible by the Kidd's Kids organization. This is a special program for children with life threatening illness and life-altering conditions. Katie, who has Prader Willi Syndrome, is one of our Project Lifesaver clients. This is a program which aides in quickly locating those who have a tendency to wander should they become lost.

Library Reading Programs Clarification
I have been asked a lot by parents for copies of reading logs. Please note that the library is not providing reading logs for reading that is required by the teacher. Each grade level/teacher has personal reading goals for their students, and the teacher provides the reading log. At the end of the 9-week grading period, teachers provide a list of students who met their reading goal, and these students are recognized in the library.
Throughout the school year, the library provides many reading incentives to motivate students to read more. Examples are:
- Monthly reading challenges
- Spurs What'cha Reading Program (expired)
- Schlitterbahn's Reading Program* (going on now)
- Six Flags Read to Succeed (coming soon)
*Schlitterbahn's Reading Program - Beginning October 21st, students who read 600 minutes (2nd-4th) or 60 books (K-1st) by December 6th will earning a free ticket to Schlitterbahn. There is nothing for the parent to do except help your child complete their daily reading and document the reading on the teacher's required reading log.
Library Learning
KINDERGARTEN - We're learning:
- The author writes the book.
- The illustrator draws.
- Fiction is a made up story by the author's brain.
Ask your kindergartener to sing the author/illustrator song! They might know the fiction chant too, but we just learned it, so it may take awhile for it to stick.
1st GRADE -
- The call number is the address of the book. It tells us where the book lives in the library.
- Fiction call numbers have all letters and nonfiction call numbers have numbers and letters.
- The catalog helps us find books we want to read. We are practicing using the catalog.
2nd GRADE -
- The catalog helps us find books we want.
- We can use the catalog to place a hold on a book.
- Nonfiction books have numbers on their call number and we are practicing finding books on the shelves.
3rd GRADE -
- We are experts at reading call numbers!
- Students completed an activity looking up books using the catalog, finding them on the shelf, and showing them to Mrs. Neal.
- We are trying out Makerspaces to see if any of them interest us.
4th GRADE -
- Genre is the "type" of book.
- We played Library Genre!
- We are trying out Makerspaces to see if any of them interest us.
