Newsletter Week 3 Term 2

Meeanee School 18th May, 2022

Into Week 3 and we are starting to see the impact of the winter cold and flu illness. We had 20 students away on Monday and more than one staff member staying home because of symptoms.

Advice we have been given says that students may experience cold and flu like illnesses that mimic COVID over the winter months.

If a child has had a COVID infection within the previous 90 days and is unwell again it is very unlikely this is a reinfection of COVID. Repeat COVID testing (RAT and PCR) within these 90 days should be discouraged except on medical advice.

If other viral illnesses are more likely, normal advice applies:

· Stay home if you have a new cough, fever, shortness of breath, wheeziness or an increasingly snotty nose

· Return to school when symptoms have resolved.

· Cough etiquette and hand hygiene to be encouraged

· Do not re-test within 90 days of previous COVID infection except on medical advice. Please see a GP if you are high risk or becoming more unwell.

However, if the student with relevant COVID symptoms:

a) is at higher risk of severe illness from COVID, then they should stay home and seek advice from their doctor or call Healthline, to assess whether this could be reinfection of not, or

b) has not had COVID within the previous 90 days, then they should be encouraged to follow normal COVID advice – i.e. isolate and test

Only household contacts of COVID cases need to isolate– either initial or reinfection. No contact is required to isolate if they have been a case within the previous 90 days or if they are a household contact who was required to isolate within the previous 10 days.

Pink Shirt Day 2022

On Friday 20th May we will be having our annual Pink Shirt Day. Pink Shirt Day is about working together to stop bullying by celebrating diversity and promoting kindness and inclusiveness.

It's about creating a community where all people feel safe, valued, and respected.

If your child has a pink shirt we encourage them to wear it. It is like a Mufti Day so let's PINK IT OUT! Socks, skirts, shorts etc...

Cotton On sell shirts if you wish to help raise money for the Mental Health Foundation.

Looks like we will be able to hold our Parent Interviews this year. On Monday 27th and Tuesday 28th June we will finish school at the earlier time of 1pm and start interviews at 1.30pm.

When you come for your interview the teacher will take you through your child's school report.

Closer to the time we will send out an interview time slip.
