1, 2, 3, Buzz!
K - 6
Big Idea
A Team building game good for whole class. It works for small group as well. Count around a circle replacing certain numbers with the word "buzz".
The length of the game can be 5 - 10 minutes.
Skills developed: Concentration, Teamwork, Listening, recalling information
Directions
Start in a group circle.
Start off by counting out loud around the circle to get familiar with the counting movement.
The teacher then calls out a change. For example, replacing numbers in the 5 times table with "buzz" instead of the actual number. Like so:
1, 2, 3, 4, "buzz", 6, 7, 8, 9, "buzz"
If the group is able, another change can be added. For example, replacing numbers in the 3 times table with the word "flop". In this instance the number 15 would be announced with a "buzz flop"
When to Use
Beginning of the year team building activity.
Once a week class team building
Strategy Variations
Tie to different disciplines -
Performing Arts / PE : Use an action instead of a sound, such as a clap, a nod, a gesture, or a movement.
Math: tie with number sense contents such as multiples, prime numbers, etc
