St Jerome's Newsletter
Week 3 - Term 4 (Thursday 31 October 2019)
Dear Lord, I'm thankful for my friends
who care and understand.
Who, when they see that I'm in need,
lend me a helping hand.
I'd like to give as much to them
as they have given me.
So I'll just say this prayer each day
"Lord, bless my friends indeed."
Dear Parents and members of our school community
I am very excited to finally announce that one of our Year 6 students, Ella W, has been awarded a full academic scholarship to Iona Catholic College in Mosman Park. Ella has been a student here since Kindy and is a credit to her family. These scholarships are highly regarded and Ella beat a large number of students from right across WA. Congratulations Ella. We're all so proud of you.
The Iona principal, Mrs Anne Pitos, will attend tomorrow afternoon's assembly to present Ella with her scholarship.
As a school, we encourage excellence in all learning areas and this week we also received news that two of our Write a Book in a Day teams have been awarded prizes in this statewide competition.
A very heartfelt thank you to the dads, mums, nannas, children and teachers who helped at last Saturday's Busy Bee. In case I miss anyone's name, I am giving you all a general "thank you".
Please enjoy these photos of our 3 year old students enjoying water play around the relocated water channel.
Places still available. Enrol now!
Annual School Community Meeting and School Board Nominations 2020
A reminder that our ANNUAL SCHOOL COMMUNITY MEETING will be held in the Parish Hall on Wednesday 27 November at 7.00pm. This is a shared meeting between the School Board and the Catholic Schools Parents WA (formerly the P&F Association). The purposes of the meeting are to report to the parent body on the activities of the Board and the CSPWA during the current year, to outline plans for the future and to conduct elections to each body for the following year. The School Board will also present its draft budget for 2020.
Refreshments will be served at the conclusion of the evening.
We would certainly like to see you at this meeting and we also encourage you to nominate for a position on either the Board or the CSPWA. Involvement with the School Board or CSPWA is very rewarding and gives the opportunity to be closely associated with the School. Below are the relevant Nomination Forms. You are free to nominate yourself or some other person; however if you nominate another person you must obtain that person’s signature on the nomination form.
We look forward to having you attend the meeting and hope you will see your way clear to nominate for election on the enclosed Nomination Form. Nomination forms should be returned to the School by Friday 15 November.
Grandparents Day - Friday 15 November
Last Friday night I was delighted to attend the Year 12 Graduation Ceremony at Emmanuel College. One of the two 2019 School Captains was James Rourke who is an ex St Jerome's student. He spoke so beautifully in his speech of appreciation to the families and staff.
Melissa Heane, Maxine Powell and Kara Vierra were also awarded prizes for achievement.

Plastic Bottle Tops Collection and Plastic Bread Tags Collection
Plastic Bottle Top Collection Paused
Thank-you to everyone who has collected milk bottle and drink bottle tops. The Envision Hands Project is pressing pause for a while, they have been overwhelmed by the response from collectors and now need to concentrate on producing hands.
In the meantime, you could check out Green Batch, a company recycling plastic here in W.A. on www.greenbatch.com as an alternative for your plastics. We will let you know when it’s possible to resume collecting for the Envision Hands Project.
Wheelchairs for South Africa - Collection of Plastic Bread Tags
We are also excited to announce that we can collect and help recycle plastic bread tags now too. There is a separate collection box in the front office. These tags will be used to provide wheelchairs for people in need in South Africa. The tags are given to the charity Bread Tags for Wheelchairs and then sold to people set up to recycle them and the funds are used to purchase wheelchairs. The recyclers are turning the tags into seedling trays, door knobs and looking into making floor tiles and coasters. That's more plastic not going into rubbish dumps!
Thank you!
