3rd Grade's a HOOT!

February 8 - 12, 2016

3rd Grade Update

We had a blast celebrating the 100th day of school. I hope you heard all about it.

Since Valentine's Day will fall on a Sunday, we will be exchanging Valentine's on Thursday, February 11. Students are in the process of making a bag at school to hold their goodies. If they choose to participate and bring Valentine's to share, I do ask that they bring one for every child in the class. I will send home a list of names this week.

Just a note about First in Math, our new math coach, Mrs. Rewis, will begin announcing the Top Player for MGE, Top Team for MGE and the Top Team for each Grade Level. It would be awesome for our class to make this list!

We are currently reading aloud Peter Pan. Students are keeping a readers notebook for this novel study. This will be collected at the end of part one for a grade. Students will be given a checklist to make sure they have the necessary components before turning in their journal.

Current Skill Focus - Comparing and contrasting two texts, Venn diagrams, asking and answering questions, showing evidence from a text to support our answer

Writing - Opinion Writing - We will be working on stating our opinion about a topic and supporting our believe with specific evidence and examples.

Encourage your child to complete their independent reading each night.

Our Chapter 6 Unit Assessment will be February 9. Students should make sure to study their notes on quadrilaterals in their math journal. I will be available Tuesday morning for students who wold like to study together.

Timed multiplication test focus: 9-10s (continued from last week)

Next week: 10-11s

We will have a test on 0-10 at the end of this week. This test will be graded. Keep practicing facts!

We will be learning about force and motion. We will talk about how it takes a force to put and object in motion and that an object in motion stays in motion until another force causes the object to stop.

SC History

Now that the colonies have successfully gained their freedom from England during the American Revolution, it is time to establish a government. In Chapter 6 students will learn about how our government was established and why it was important.

We are also looking forward to our field trip to the Battle of Aiken next Friday. It will be very important that students wear comfortable walking shoes for this trip.

Other Notes

Don't forget to check and sign your child's agenda each night. Encourage them to write neatly so you can read what they should be doing. Every child should be able to communicate what they are doing in class.

Purple folders come home on Wednesday. Please make sure you are reviewing the papers and signing the folder each week. The folders are due back to school by Friday.
