Attention AP Students and Parents
Advanced Placement (AP) testing is coming in May! Much of our testing will be done off site to maintain the testing environment with as little distraction as possible. If your student is in an AP class, please check the calendar below for the test date and location. The testing locations are nearby churches who are generous enough to allow Westview to use their space. Testing locations are St. Andrews United Methodist Church at 15050 West Maple Road, Omaha, NE 68116 and Flatland Church at 4801 N 144th St, Omaha, NE 68116. Students will need to be at the alternate location 15 minutes prior to test time so please plan transportation accordingly!
If you know now that your Wolverine will be out of town or unable to take the test on their given date, please contact Jennifer.Gorrin@ops.org to inquire about alternate testing.

Freshman News
5-Star Freshman Breakfast
The Five Star Freshman Breakfast will be held on May 9th during 1st block. Invitations will be delivered to the Freshmen that were chosen as a Five Star Freshman sometime from August to April. Five Star Freshman of the year from each team will be announced at the breakfast.
College Visits
College visits are field experiences where Freshman get to tour, visit, and have different experiences on local university campuses. We do them for Freshmen for a few different reasons. One reason is to celebrate student's pathway selection and give students a chance to learn more about the pathway they have recently selected. It also introduces students to local universities. We want Freshmen to start envisioning their future and exploring post-secondary school options; this is one of the ways to do this. The visits are split up based on the specific pathway each student has chosen, as it gives students a more personalized experience and visit. So far, our Therapeutic Services, Education, Biomechanics, and Human Performance pathways have gone on visits. We still have four visits to go!
Pathway Induction Ceremony
On May 8th, 5:30-7:00PM, Freshmen are having an event celebrating themselves and the pathway they chose with a delicious bowl of ice cream. Students can bring their families while they announce the pathway that they chose. The purpose of the event is to recognize and celebrate Freshmen for their Pathway selection and gather as a community at the end of Freshman year. Students who didn't RSVP by April 16th will not receive a T-Shirt with their pathway on it during the ceremony.
Use the link below to RSVP, you can RSVP until April 30th.

Anne Frank Traveling Exhibit
Buffett Middle School is hosting a 32-panel traveling exhibition on the life and times of Anne Frank on Thursday, May 9th from 5:30-6:30. This event is free and open to the community to attend. We have twenty students trained as docents to guide families through the exhibit.
Mr. Wilcox's AP U.S. History Class
Mr. Wilcox's AP U.S. History class in 4B visited the Samuel Bak Exhibition near the University of Nebraska Omaha on April 2nd. This exhibition shows the artist's experiences and feelings he had during the time period of the Holocaust. Instead of writing Bak, used abstract art to tell his story. Students in the history class got to travel there during their last period class and see their current topics they are learning about in a new perspective. This was a fun field trip for the students but also a great learning experience about World War Two, and its survivors.
Westview's Arbor Day
- We are excited to announce that we will be hosting our second Westview Arbor Day 5k/10k Arbor Day run and walk on April 28th, 2024, at 10:00am at Lake Cunningham, Entrance 1. We are doing this to involve our Health Science and Sustainability pathways in celebration of Arbor Day. Students from the Health Science pathways will be helping with stretching sessions, aid stations, snacks and water, and will be working with UNO Biomechanics to collect activity data from volunteers. Students from our Sustainability pathways will be assisting at booths held by the Papio-Missouri Natural Resources District, the NE Statewide Arboretum and Forest Service, and the City of Omaha Stormwater.
- All registrants will receive a free t-shirt designed by our business students, a tree sapling, wildflower seed packets, a Square Donut, and information about Arbor Day. The winners of the event will also have the opportunity to have a tree planted in their honor in our Westview High School Arboretum.
- The event is open to all ages within our Omaha community, and we are hoping you will join us. Please see the attached flyer for details and registration, or you may register by clicking the link below.

Prom
Prom was held at the Ackerhurst Dairy Farm on April 9th. This venue wasn't only chosen for its beautiful scenery and environment but also its proximity to the school. This year's dance is extra special because it is Westview's very first prom. Because of its importance, the Westview Crew decided to go all out to give the juniors a very special experience. The Westview Crew also decided to keep the students safe after prom and also allow them to continue have fun. The after prom at Spare Time featured the new bowling alley, food and drinks, a henna artist, escape rooms, laser tag, prizes, and movies. Wolverines had an amazing time "under the stars" and while the prince Kevin Rempe and princess T'Mya Jackson got to take a new title, everyone got to take home lots of amazing memories that they can cherish for a long time.
The Monthly Trivia/Fact
Growing Plastic Waste
According to the U.S. Department of State, roughly 8 million metric tons of plastic go into the world's ocean's every single year. Given that most plastics aren't biodegradable, they are likely to stay in the environment for centuries to come. Found in north-central region of the Pacific, the largest accumulation of plastic debris in the ocean is known as the "Great Pacific Garbage Patch" and is twice the size of Texas. This situation can really impact the earth if no one does anything about it and that’s exactly what some students in our sustainability pathway do. They go out and help pick up trash and plastics to help keep our earth clean as well as a way to lessen the waste people create.
