Engineering Design Process
We are excited to invite all Cannon parents & families to experience an Engineering Design Challenge in your child's grade level during this event! Come learn how your child is utilizing the Engineering Design Process in their STEM learning at Cannon.
VISIT THE MAKERSPACE!
Be sure to stop by the Cannon Makerspace during Family Engineering Night to see some awesome demonstrations by our very own student STEMbassadors from Cannon! They will be showcasing some of the amazing resources that are available for our Cannon Cubs in this innovative area of our school. Come see our Cannon STEMbassadors in action doing demonstrations on our FLL mission tables, and showing how are Cannon students & staff use Ozobots, WeDo2.0, Little Bits Snap Circuits, Cubelets, and MORE as part of STEM-based learning at school!
Check Out The Engineering Activities Planned For This Event!
Parents are invited to participate in the engineering project planned in for your child's grade level(s). Feel free to stop by other grade levels to check out other engineering projects!
Kindergarten: Push, Pull, Go Rube Goldberg Style
Come join Kindergarten as we explore patterns of movement by designing a Rube Goldberg machine with moving parts! (Mechanical Engineering)
1st Grade: Marble-ous Water Slide
1st graders have been studying patterns of movement and designing the twists and turns of their water slides. Come join us and help your child build the structure to hold up their slide. Test to see if your marble "person" ends up in the pool! (Structural Engineering)
2nd Grade: Spin, Slide and Roll: Marble Moves!
Being a structural engineer means more than just building! Sometimes you need to build to improve the features of movement within a design! 2nd grade is excited to see if you can build a marble run using your knowledge of angles, measurement, and all patterns of movement! (Structural Engineering)
3rd Grade: Ready, Set, Race!
3rd grade scholars and families will engage in the Improve stage of our Engineering Design Process. Families will work together to streamline student derby car designs, created out of recyclable materials, by adding wheels, axles, fins & tails. Get ready to test your derby cars for loads and balance and to see how far they can go! (Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering)
4th Grade: Sending Out A Message -SOS!
How would you deliver an important message that could potentially change the lives of an entire city? Come design a package using specific materials to safely deliver a message to the underground society, the setting for our novel, City of Embers. This message will let the citizens of the City of Ember know how to escape to a new world! Be prepared to "purchase" materials from the "Supply Depot", but choose carefully! Supplies will run out quickly! (Materials/Package Engineering)
5th Grade: Recreating The Past Through Robotics
Scholars will be using their knowledge of the underground railroad and the Civil War to create a Sphero Robot-driven wagon with their families to represent the passage of the Underground Railroad to the free states. Families will use the plan that scholars have imagined to design their wagon using K'nex to navigate through various trials. (Mechanical Engineering)
Don't Forget To Shop The Book Fair!
Our Book Fair will be open during Family Engineering Night, so please stop by the library and browse all of the great selections on display! This is a great time to take care of some early holiday shopping!
The Book Fair will begin on Monday, 03/04 and will end at 11:00 am on Friday, 03/08.
