Hailey Weaver- Hi! My name is Hailey Weaver, and I am the school psychologist for Glen Hills Middle School. Don't worry, Dr. Rodriguez is not too far. She is full-time at Parkway Elementary while I serve you full-time at Glen Hills. I understand I have exceptionally big shoes to fill and I am honored by the opportunity to earn your trust and take on that challenge.
Prior to becoming a school psychologist, I was a special education teacher. My passion for supporting individual student needs, thinking flexibly about strategies that foster success, problem-solving hard to understand behaviors, and celebrating student progress is what drew me back to school for education psychology. I am incredibly excited to put that background to work for you, your children, and their teachers as your school psychologist.
Elija Triggs- Hello, My name is Mr.Triggs and I am excited to be the Student Service Support Mentor this year at Glen Hill. As a Mentor I have the pleasure of aiding Counselors, Psychologists, and the Social Worker in their attempt to maintain an optimal learning environment and headspace for our scholars. Using small groups, and one on one meetings, we are able to get to know scholars personally and effectively guide them through the difficulties middle school brings.
This week, we’ll begin Second Step®, a research-based social-emotional learning program designed to improve children’s social-emotional skills. Second Step skills and concepts are designed to help children both in and out of school. Four units will cover the following:
Growth Mindset & Goal-Setting: Children learn how to pay attention and manage distractions, develop a growth mindset, and apply goal-setting strategies to their social and academic lives.
Emotion Management: Children learn how to identify and label emotions and use emotion management strategies—including stress management for older students—to calm strong feelings.
Empathy & Kindness: Children learn how to recognize kindness and act kindly, have empathy for others and take others’ perspectives, and recognize kind acts and empathy as important elements of building and maintaining relationships.
Problem-Solving: Children learn how to identify and state a problem, recognize if a problem is an accident, and use the STEP problem-solving process:
S: Say the problem
T: Think of solutions
E: Explore the outcomes
P: Pick a solution
Thank you for your support as we work to build a safe and supportive school community.
Suicide Awareness Month
September is Suicide Prevention Month. We want to use this month to share important information and to change the perception of people affected by suicide. We want to make sure that our students and families have the resources they need to discuss and prevent suicide and know when to look for help.
