What is the School Improvement Team?
What is SIT?
A School Improvement Team is a collaborative group of representatives from the school community that works to develop and implement a School Improvement Plan. School Improvement Plans, which are required by North Carolina law, are designed to improve student performance at the school. Plans remain in effect for no more than two years.
What does the SIT do?
The SIT may deal with issues related to instruction, student achievement or engagement, and the school environment. The SIT develops, reviews, and amends the School Improvement Plan based on an examination of data; approves the capital and operational budget requests; solicits input from and hears the concerns of constituents about school programs; reviews the results of relevant state and district administered surveys; provides counsel to the Board of Education on issues and policies; participates in the selection process when there is a vacancy for the position of principal at the school; advocates for schools; and serves in an advisory capacity to the principal.
