Our Lady of Mercy
NEWSLETTER | TERM 2 | WEEK 5 | 24 MAY 2023
LifeLink Day is a special occasion where Catholic schools in Western Australia join forces to raise awareness and support for LifeLink social service agencies. It inspires students, teachers, and schools to come together and organise fundraising activities and donations, directly helping those in our community who are in need. Thank you for participating in Crazy Hair Day!
Life Link Prayer
Dear God, Bless us as we show kindness and support to others, just like Jesus taught us.
Help us see and meet the needs of our brothers and sisters who ask for our help.
May your love shine through our actions and the work of LifeLink agencies.
Guide us to make a positive difference in the world. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Dear Parents and Carers
Kiss and Drive
Thank you for your patience with the closure of our Kiss and Drive for afternoon pick up this week, as we installed an island to improve the safety of our Kiss and Drive area for all users. We have upgraded the Kiss and Drive area over the last couple of years to improve safety including a patio, bollards and now a dedicated laneway for Kiss and Drive vehicles. A very big thank you must be extended to Mr McPhail for his idea and oversight of this project.
Nut Aware
We are a nut aware school and as such we ask all families to not pack nuts or products that contain nuts into your child’s lunchbox. There are several children at our school with anaphylaxis allergies, which means that these children have a severe life-threatening form of allergic reaction to nuts. Your thoughtful consideration of other children when deciding what to pack into your children’s lunchboxes, is much appreciated.
Closure of School Gates
From Monday next week, our Kiss and Drive gate, Koman Way and basketball gates will be closed at 8.40am. Anyone who arrives after this time will have to enter the school through the front pedestrian gate. We are closing gates earlier to encourage families to ensure that their children are at school shortly before 8.30am. Far too many children are arriving at school 15 to 20 minutes late. If any family is experiencing difficulty in getting to school on time, please let your child's classroom teacher know, we may be able to assist with ideas for morning routines.
Lockdown Drill
This week on Wednesday we practised a lockdown drill at our school. It is important to practise the procedures we will follow to keep everyone safe in the unlikely event of an emergency situation at school.
Code of Conduct
Conduct Statement 2: We respect the dignity, culture, values and beliefs of each member of the school community.
This means that we respect and treat every person with dignity, showing respect for people's culture, values and beliefs. We interact with one another in an honest and respectful manner.
Examples:
- For staff this statement means respecting the diversity of our school community which will be evident in our language and behaviours.
- For students this statement means obtaining permission to take and share photographs and videos and using respectful language towards all members of our school community.
- For parents/carers/volunteers/visitors this statement means using appropriate language when engaging with staff and being respectful of how you talk about other students.
Confirmation
This weekend we keep our Year 6 Confirmation candidates in our prayers as they receive the Sacrament of Confirmation on Sunday. We thank our Year 6 teachers, Ms Smith and Mr Micale for preparing the Year 6 students so well, and to all our staff for attending Mass on Sunday to support our students in their faith journey.
God bless you all.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2023 is Be a Voice for Generations. The theme encourages all Australians to be a voice for reconciliation in tangible ways in our everyday lives – where we live, work and socialise.
Year 6 Leader Project - support our Free Dress Day fundraiser!
Selected Year 6 students are participating in a Community Action Project (through the City of Wanneroo 2023 School Leadership Program).
We aim to raise funds to help our students purchase the materials needed to create a vegetable garden within the school grounds to benefit our wider community, particularly those in need with the donation of the produce.
Free Dress Day for gold coin donation Friday 2 June. Please support our project
