TCS Educator Named AL District VII Elementary Teacher of the Year
Celebrating Our School Nurses
The American Nursing Association (ANA) annually designates May 6-12 as National Nurses Week. Embedded in this period is National School Nurse Day, which fell on May 11 this year. The National Association of School Nurses (NASN) coordinates the celebration of National School Nurse Day - which honors the 95,000 school nurses across the United States. Trussville City Schools is fortunate to have school nurses on each campus - and even nursing assistants on some campuses. We celebrate and honor these medical professionals - leaders who bridge healthcare and education, provide care coordination, advocate for quality student-centered care, and collaborate to design systems allowing students and communities to stay safe while on TCS campuses. See more about TCS School Nurses and Nursing Assistants on the TCS district website.

Celebrating the Inaugural School Communicators Day
Last July, the Executive Board of the National School Public Relations Association (NSPRA) unanimously voted to officially recognize School Communicators Day on the second Friday in May beginning in 2022. Today, Friday, May 13, 2022, NSPRA is celebrating the inaugural School Communicators Day! That celebration extends to Trussville City Schools, where we are fortunate to have school-based communicators sharing positive stories in multiple ways. Led by PR Supervisor Jason Gaston, APR (who also served on the NSPRA National Executive Board), the TCS Communication LTTs help maintain school websites, social media platforms, school newsletters, and more - all during the school year. Team members include Rebecca Bishop (Magnolia); Erin McGuyer (HTMS); Ellen Ormond (PES); and Amy Prickett (CES). We celebrate these communicators who do their best to get every positive story told! See more on NSPRA's Inaugural National School Communicators Day.

Tour Time: Cahaba, Magnolia, Paine 5th Graders Merge at Middle School
For the first time since 2019, rising TCS 6th graders engaged in what had been a rite-of-passage: a tour of Hewitt-Trussville Middle School (HTMS). The practice was put on pause during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, with public health conditions in a much better place, the historically popular tours have returned. Fifth graders from Cahaba Elementary, Magnolia Elementary, and Paine Elementary converged on the HTMS campus May 11 to get a glimpse into middle school life. Principal Mrs. Jennifer Abney provided a welcome to all of the 5th graders before they were dismissed to various parts of the school for student-led tours.
Magnolia Unveils Student-Led Yearbook
Magnolia Elementary's Yearbook Team - comprised of 4th and 5th graders - finally got to see the fruits of their labor this week with a much-anticipated unveiling of this school year's yearbook. The students were treated to a Pizza and Preview Party by Librarian Ms. Rebecca Bishop and Principal Dr. Phyllis Faust. It was at this event students were allowed to see the yearbook they put together and learn of plans for school-wide autograph parties. The Trussville Tribune covered the school-wide yearbook unveiling party on Friday 5/13. That story is scheduled to be posted to the media outlet's website this weekend and appear in print this coming Tuesday, May 17, 2022.
Cahaba Open House/Marketplace Draws Hundreds of Parents
Cahaba Elementary School's open house and marketplace held in late April were great successes. With 98% parent participation, the halls and classrooms were filled with family members who celebrated student accomplishments this school year. Families visited the GATE (Gifted and Talented Education) Marketplace in the gym, art galleries in the hallway, TCS Foundation Grant presentations in the library, and food trucks along the lawn. It was a great night for the families of Cahaba. -Submitted

HTMS Theatre Relishes in Successful Spring Staging
Jennifer Bruno has been directing theatre for more than two decades. She typically has a basic idea of the shows she wants to produce several years in advance. However, for this Hewitt-Trussville Middle School teacher, COVID redirected all of that. In part, COVID redirected and renewed interest in theatre at the middle school - culminating with the staging of a show that was not originally on Bruno’s radar: Disney’s High School Musical, Jr. It’s an energetic musical that has stood the test of time; a piece very familiar to students. It centers around the romance of two popular high schoolers - students who must deal with issues of friends, family, and relationships while staying on track at school. See more on theatre at Hewitt-Trussville Middle School.
