Virtual Math "Night" a Success!
Thank you for the outstanding participation in our Virtual Math Night last week! The videos and pictures were awesome! Thank you to Mrs. Ponsini, Math Resource Teacher, and all the staff who shared activities. Those who participated had a chance at winning a Walmart gift card! These students were our winners: S. Geib, C. Bacorn, J. Weishaar, and M. Dodd. Congratulations and thank you for participating!
Watch for information about a Virtual Reading "Night" on January 13!
Welcome to Mrs. Rachel Massoni! She is our new 3rd grade special education teacher who began at DES this week. Mrs. Massoni has a Bachelor's degree in Education and has almost completed her Master's. She worked as a permanent substitute and special education Instructional Assistant in Talbot County schools for the last four and a half years while earning her degrees. Mrs. Massoni is an energetic mother of four children and two cats. She and her family live in Denton. Please join me in welcoming her to our pod!
If you or someone you know are in need of food for the holiday, the Maryland Food Bank will hold a food drop this Thursday, December 17 between 3 and 4 PM at 401 Aldersgate Drive, Denton.
On Wednesday, December 23, we will hold our annual Sing Along. Mrs. Oesterle, other staff and DES community members have contributed to this year's program so while we can't all be together physically, we can be together in spirit. The Sing Along will be posted on Monday, December 21 for students and families to access; a short survey will be used to document your participation for attendance in school on December 23.
I wish you a restful and safe holiday season! I look forward to an outstanding 2021!
Blessings to you and your family,
Susan R. McCandless

2020 Inclement Weather Information
December 16, 2020 -
Four inclement weather days are built into the 2020-2021 school calendar. If these days are not used, the school year will end earlier than June 17, currently the last day of school.
If more than four days are used, the school year will be extended by the number of days used.
In an effort to avoid using inclement weather days this year, CCPS has developed the following plan:
1. If a weather event impacts the ability to transport students safely:
a. All students will remain at home for an asynchronous distancing learning day (as they
experience on Wednesdays). Asynchronous lessons will be posted by 10:30 am.
b. Staff will report for a 10:00 am start time.
2. If a weather event requires the closure of all CCPS buildings:
a. All students will remain at home for an asynchronous distancing learning day (as they
experience on Wednesdays). Asynchronous lessons will be posted by 10:30 am.
b. Staff do not report.
Unexpected inclement weather may result in an early dismissal for in-person students and staff. An early dismissal would impact the schedule for both in-person students and distance learners; however, it would generally not have an impact on the school calendar.
Delayed openings, early closings, and all-day closings are communicated via:
● a phone call through our notification system School Messenger
● the CCPS website
● Social Media: Facebook (Caroline County Public Schools), Twitter (@CarolineCoPS) and
Instagram (carolineschoolsmd)
● local and regional TV and radio stations
A reminder for families: If you are not receiving email or phone calls from your school, please contact the school office to provide or update your contact information. Having the correct information in PowerSchool is critical to receiving calls and emails from the school via School Messenger.
