When I was in college, I watched “Days of our Lives,” a soap opera. Since this was in the ‘80s before even VCRs were common, I would plan my classes around the 1-2 pm viewing time so that I could keep up with the drama of my favorite fictional town and its residents. The show starts with the image of an hourglass and the phrase, “Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives.”

I am reminded of this as we enter into the last week of school. Time is a strange thing –it can fly or drag. In some ways, it seems like the school year just started, but it also feels like it took forever to get to this week. It is hard to believe we are almost at the end of the school year. Summer is almost here – the students can hardly wait - but summer will also fly by. On May 26 at 12:01 pm, the entire summer stretches before you - there is plenty of time to do everything you want to do. Then we blink our eyes, and it is the Fourth of July and back-to-school displays are up in the stores. How can time just sneak away without noticing?

There are 9 weeks – 67.5 days of summer. I hope that you are able to spend as many of them as you can enjoying this special time with your children. Don’t let them slip away “like sands in the hourglass.”
