NEWS FROM THE CORRAL
April 15, 2017
Good Morning Pony Families,
I know you are enjoying the extra time off with this family as each of us has our own traditions of a three-day weekend. The students and staff were ready for a little down time prior to the final rush of the spring season!
As always we celebrated with many groups last week. Our Choirs received incredible results last weekend at their UIL competitions. We have pictures this week and next week we will report each student's individual successes. Mr. Nidever has worked diligently with each student and the progress our choirs made this year is outstanding.
I've included awards presented to our 8th grade Track Zone winners as well as the records broken this year. We have incredible athletes that we will continue to watch as they make history in high school.
Our artists participated in Jr VASE - Visual Arts Scholastic Event - and we celebrate their awards. As you walk through the hallways it's impressive to see the art displayed from our students. Thank you Ms. Montalvo for continuing to encourage participation at GMS.
Tuesday evening we inducted our 2017-2018 class of the National Junior Honor Society.
This prestigious society honors students who exhibit the qualities of leadership, citizenship, character, service, and scholarship. Congratulations to our new members and thank you to our 2016 members who represented GMS.
Please remember to fill out the parent engagement survey from the link below. Your feedback is critical to the growth of GCISD.
Have a great weekend and enjoy the spring season of renewal.
Blessings,
Linda Young, Principal

Plans are underway for an outstanding 2017-18 school year at GMS PTA! The GMS PTA Nominating Committee is currently looking for volunteers to help fill the Executive Board for next year.
GMS is a wonderful school with awesome staff, teachers, and students! It has been a challenge for many years, to find volunteers to create an effective, efficient, diverse and involved PTA board. We are open to any suggestions to filling the board for next year and would love to see volunteers from Cannon, Dove, Silver Lake, STEM, transfers and those new to GMS.
We are using a Google form this year to make it super easy to respond and find the position that best fits you.

World Wear Project
Spring is upon us and what better time to clean out your closets and donate your used clothing, shoes, purses, backpacks, hats, caps, toys, and stuffed animals. The World Wear Project collection bin is conveniently located outside the GMS Gym entrance. The GMS PTA will receive .12 cents for every pound collected. 100% of the items collected will be reused or recycled. This not only helps our landfills, but also helps others who are less fortunate than we are to have much needed clothing and shoes. Thank you for your support.
