AHES Panther News

2021 Connection: November 5, 2021

Panther Families,

It was so wonderful to see so many families at the AHES PTA Trunk or Treat Event. Thank you to the parents and PTA for coordinating this great event!

Pop culture and shows that are trending seem to have a way of becoming a topic of conversation on the playground. Our School Counselor provided the following article geared towards parents and the Netflix Show Squid Games. Parents, please review with your children that Squid Games is not an appropriate topic of conversation or game for school. Thank you for your support as we continue to ensure the safety and wellbeing of our students.

This week, Ms. Grassbaugh, Dr. Hansen, and I traveled to Maryland to participate in the National Blue Ribbon Schools Ceremony. It was such an honor to represent AHES as we received our 2021 National Blue Ribbon Schools award. You can find a picture, below, of us with the award that will hang in our AHES front office.

Please see below for this week's updates. Have a great weekend!

Best,

Mrs. Van Wilgen Moore

Principal

AHES Boy Scouts & Girl Scouts - Lead the Pledge - Updates

Thank you to those of you who have volunteered your scout students to help lead the pledge at our November 16th Pep Rally.

Please have your scout come to school in their scout uniform that day. I will pull them out of class one of the days before the ceremony to practice the pledge. On the day of the ceremony, I will pull them out of class a little bit early so they are all ready for the Pep Rally.

Parent Portal - Updates - Please Review

As OUSD moves further away from using as much paper, the Parent Portal is becoming more important than ever as a school-to-home communication tool.

OUSD will be updating Portal forms throughout the school year. These forms will be pushed out using the Parent Portal. Any time a document is updated or added, parents will be required to perform Data Confirmation again for that item. If a document is updated, you will see an alert message the next time you log in. This can be confusing for families that have already done the Data Confirmation task at the beginning of the school year. You will not be able to proceed until you have done the Data Confirmation for the specific updated or added document.

Nutrition Services - Grab & Go Lunch Update

This month, Nutrition Services is rolling out new Wednesday Grab & Go offerings. Rather than serving the traditional cold sandwich with the Grab & Go meals, we are offering assorted grains and proteins such as string cheese, sunflower seeds, yogurt, crackers, granola, tortilla chips with salsa. I affectionately call it a “Kids Charcuterie Plate” with my own children at home, and they love it.

I wanted to assure you that although these assorted grain and protein offerings look different from our traditional Wednesday Grab & Go entrées, they all meet the National School Lunch Program nutrition requirements. All items count as either 1-2 ounces of protein, and 1-2 ounces of whole grains. We will still be serving assorted milk, fruit and vegetables with the Wednesday Grab & Go lunches as well. I hope your students enjoy the new offerings.

Kind Regards,

Jamie - Nutritional Services

Technology Reminders & Costs

Hello Anaheim Hills Elementary Parents,

At the beginning of the school year students were issued a new updated device and cord. Grades 3-6 received Dyna Books, grades K-2 received iPads. To ensure that students have the most up to date and school compatible equipment to succeed, we have switched any of the old devices to new Dynabooks/iPads. Your student is responsible for this new device. This school year charges will be enforced for damaged devices. A damaged device includes, but is not limited to stickers added, missing keys, broken trackpad or camera, and lost cord. Blue painters tape or electrical tape with the student's name are the only acceptable items that can be added to the front of the device and cord. Optional Insurance can be purchased for your student's device. https://schooldevicecoverage.com/ Please see the replacement costs below.

Thank you,

Anaheim Hills Elementary School
