Fleece and Thank you
Oakview's Third Annual Fleece and Thank You event will be held on Tuesday, April 30, 2019. Last year, students made over 40 blankets. We hope to increase that number. The Information sheet is attached. There are many ways for students to participate. If students want to make a blanket, they can stay after school from 2:30-4:30. You can buy a blanket kit to make or bring your own fleece. If you want to help but cannot attend, money to make blankets can be donated and students will get them made. Family members are welcome to join us after school. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Kutchen at christine.kutchen@lok12.org.

For this to be a success we are asking for donations of time and items as we partner with several senior centers in our community. NOAH food drive
Networking, Organizing, and Advocating for the Homeless (NOAH)
Members of our National Junior Honor Society are spearheading an event for the above organization NOAH. The collection is the week of April 22, 2019.
More than just a lunch, the Bag Lunch Program is the beginning of a relationship. The warm, safe space that is created where people are known by name can start a transformation. Offered Monday through Thursday, the Bag Lunch Program has served the downtown Detroit community for over 40 years.
We set transformation in motion first by welcoming participants to partake in our Bag Lunch Program. This meal is our main engagement strategy, designed to begin an ongoing relationship founded on trust and acceptance. It is open to anyone without qualifications or restrictions.

Positivity Project - Appreciation of Beauty and Excellence
Appreciating beauty and excellence means that you notice and value the world’s beauty and people’s skills. This is the ability to identify and enjoy that which is admirable in the world. There are three types of goodness in which positive psychology focuses: physical beauty (e.g. a sunset, song, or building); an exceptional skill or talent; and moral goodness (e.g. a character strength). Appreciation of beauty can generate awe; appreciation of a skill can generate admiration; and appreciation of moral goodness can generate moral elevation. All of these feelings (awe, admiration, and moral elevation) help us forget ourselves and find increased joy and meaning in the world.
