A Message from Dr. Frischkorn

Good Afternoon Mayfield!

This past week all nine schools in Manassas City got to highlight some of the great things that are occuring in our schools during the Superintendent's Spotlight in honor of School Board Appreciation Month. I"m so impressed by the students and staff of MCPS who go above and beyond in order to provide our students with the best learning opportunities.

We are fortunate to have an amazing school board who supports our entire school division. Without their support, we would not be able to do the many great things that we are currently doing. Thank you to our school board!

Check out the video of the past school board meeting in which so many great things were highlighted.

With gratitude,

Dr. Donald Frischkorn

Student of the Month Celebrations

On Friday, March 6, 2020 we will be hosting our Student of the Month Celebration for January and February. The assembly will start promptly at 7:45 AM. Teachers have selected their students of the month and have informed the students about the celebration. If your child is being recognized at the Student of the Month Celebration then we invited you to attend as well. Enjoy seeing your child celebrated for being a great all-around student and spend some quality time with them while eating donuts and drinking juice.

Career Day at Mayfield!

Mayfield will be hosting an exhibition-style Career Day on March 27th, 7:30-10:30 am. This will be an awesome opportunity for local community members to come in and share their career with our students.

We are hoping to get a diverse representation of jobs from the 16 career clusters. The flyer for career day is attached so you can share it around. Presenters can sign up at

Details on the flow, timing, and organization of the day will come closer to the event. Let’s get the word out to make this a great day for our students!!

SOL Testing Dates

It's had to believe, but SOL testing is right around the corner. We will start SOL testing during the last week of April. Prior to SOL testing we will give our students plenty of opportunities to become familiar with the testing protocol so that when they take the test, it's all about them showing off how much they learned this year. Please look at the calendars below.

5th Grade SOL Exams: Reading, Math and Science

6th Grade SOL Exams: Reading and Math

March- Students will be administered the Student Growth Assessment (SGA). The SGA assesses students on all the content that has been taught throughout the school year. The SGA provides valuable information that teachers can use to help offer students further assistance prior to the SOL exams in April and May.

April- Students will return from Spring Break and have 2 weeks of time that can be used to help familiarize the students with the SOL testing website. Students will be provided time to use their laptops to make sure that they understand how to use the tools that are available to them while they take the SOL exam. SOL testing will begin during the last week of April. To keep it simple, 5th grade students will have SOL exams on 3 consecutive Tuesdays. 6th Grade students will have SOL exams on 2 consecutive Thursdays.

May- Students will finish up SOL exams in early May. Students who are eligible will have the opportunity to take an expedited retake. Students who score between 375-399 on their first attempt on the SOL will be provided the opportunity to try the SOL exam again.

Community Building at Mayfield

At Mayfield Intermediate School we not only focus on the academic learning, but we also focus on social emotional learning and providing students with experiences that they will remember once they leave Mayfield and move on to new adventures.
