Healesville Primary School
Edition 26 - Friday 23rd August 2019
From the Principal's desk…
This week I had the pleasure of attending the Speech Competition at Healesville High School run by Rotary, which included students from most of the local primary schools.
We had three of our very talented students represent our school. Each student was brilliant; they spoke with passion and maturity. I was incredibly impressed with our students and they should be very proud of their efforts – Well Done. These are our girls and their topics of choice.
· Amber Luscombe – ‘The Most Amazing Person I Know’
· Halee Gore – ‘If I Had Three Wishes…..’
· Isabelle Watson – ‘If I Ruled The World’
This week has had a very strong focus on books as it is BOOKWEEK. Many thanks to the teachers who have shared all the shortlisted books with their students and run a range of activities. The culmination of these was our Book Character Dress Up Parade today. Not sure, who enjoyed it more some of the teachers or the students.
Congratulations to our two winners, both students have received a voucher from Verso Books in Healesville.
- Will Watson - "Mr Stink"
- Charlotte King - "Thelma the Unicorn"
It has also been a very busy week with students rehearsing for our concert. Again I have been blown away by the talent of our students. I also love how keen they are to perform and their level of perfection. Tickets are now on sale so make sure you come along it is sure to be amazing! A big thank you to Fenna Hogg for all of her hard work organising, as well as all of our teachers – a lot of extra time is being put in behind the scenes.
On Thursday this week, we had our third highly successful transition session for our Preps of 2020. A huge thank you to Sharyn Borg and our captains who organised this. Our new Preps had a great afternoon participating in sporting activities run by the captains. They organised the new preps into groups and they got to use the scooter boards, skipping ropes, crawling tunnels and much more. It was a huge amount of fun and as usual our captains were stars!
Just a reminder that next week we have our Father’s Day/Special Persons Breakfast on Thursday morning and I look forward to meeting more of our fathers and special people.

Important Information from the Admin Team
By now everyone will have received their email with login details for our new parent portal. To date a number of families have not logged in. It is imperative that all families have access as it will be the main avenue of communication for all administration matters.
A few people have asked - 'Why use a portal?'. The Sentral portal is secure and has been approved by the Department of Education. It shows all the information that we have regarding your child, meaning that you are able to amend details if needs be. 1000's of schools across Victoria are now using some sort of portal. The portal also allows integrated information eg. an excursion is automatically linked to attendance or a curriculum based excursion can be automatically linked to reports. The portal also has a calendar feature enabling everyone to keep track of upcoming events. The portal also allows you access to absence data, and reports - You can even log your child's absence from home - this includes past, current and all future dated absences.
Excursions and activities that involve your child will now be posted to the portal which means you will be unable to give permission if you do not have access. Payments can also be made through the portal - it's your one-stop-shop for everything regarding your child.
If you have not received your email or if you are having problems using the portal, please do not hesitate to contact the office.
For your enjoyment, we are producing a fabulous School Concert where every class takes part.
These performances will be at the Memo Hall in Main St, Healesville.

Aemelia and Eloise Stevenson have both been chosen for the Under 12 Footsal Development Squad! This means that next year they get to travel to Barcelona to train with leading coaches. As a school community, we would like to help them get there. Eloise and Aemelia have organised a few fundraising events, the first one being 'Guess the M&Ms". It costs 50 cents for each guess, with one lucky winner taking home the entire jar. This will be drawn on Friday 30/08/19 at assembly. Please come to the office at recess and lunch time where the girls will help everyone choose a number.
