Happy New Year! I want to wish all of our Sea Dragon's a healthy and happy 2022!
As we close out our winter recess, I hope your family had an opportunity to enjoy the holidays and all are safe and healthy. With the recent surge in COVID-19 cases, Culver City Unified School District remains steadfast in our commitment to follow all recommended mitigation efforts and practices that keep our students and staff safe and attending school in-person.
I would like to provide you some health and safety updates to ensure we have a smooth return to school. Our collective efforts absolutely make a difference and I am confident that we can continue to do so through the winter season. Please see below for reminders upon returning to school this week.
Testing:
Given the high transmission level of the Omicron variant, we are strongly encouraging students to secure a COVID test prior to returning to campus on Monday, January 3, 2022. COVID19 at-home testing kits have been ordered (through LACOE) and delivery is expected to be this coming week. Information regarding the tests will be shared with families as soon as it becomes available.
If your family was not able to take advantage of the CCUSD testing on Thursday and Friday, here are some potential options for testing:
- Your health care provider
- Local CVS/pharmacy stores
- Some local urgent care facilities
- An at-home COVID test
A negative test is NOT required for students and staff to return to school January 3rd, 2022, but in the event your child exhibits any flu-like or cold symptoms, your child should remain at home. If a student is exhibiting symptoms, a negative PCR test will be required to return to school.
Most common symptoms include:
- Fever
- Dry cough
- Tiredness
Less common symptoms:
- Aches and pains
- Sore throat
- Diarrhea
- Conjunctivitis
- Headache
- Loss of taste or smell
- a rash on skin, or discoloration of fingers or toes
Please contact the school health team for guidance on testing. Students who are exhibiting symptoms at school will be sent to the school health office and will be sent home.
**See Daily Screener below for guidelines. Please complete the daily screener at home BEFORE sending your student to school each day**
Masks:
CCUSD will provide medical-grade (KF94) COVID19-specific masks for all students and staff upon returning to schools on January 3rd, 2022. Staff and students will arrive wearing their own masks, but each will be given a new KF94 medical-grade mask. Instruction on how to correctly wear these masks will be provided.
**Please help to by talking to your student about the expectation that masks are to be worn covering both their nose and mouth.
Lunch:
We will continue with our schedule and arrangement for all our lunchtimes. In preparation for Monday's return we will be sure to look at our marked seating spaces to ensure that our spaces are clearly marked. We will also be reminding students to keep their masks on when not actively eating or drinking.
As the situation during the pandemic continues to be fluid, I will send out any communication to the Lin Howe community as I receive it. Enjoy these last few days at home and I am looking forward to seeing our Sea Dragon's back in person on Monday!

Travel Guidelines
The current guidance for unvaccinated travelers is a recommendation, not a mandate. It goes as follows:
If you (or any of your traveling companions) are not fully vaccinated and you must travel, follow the CDC domestic travel guidelines for people who are not fully vaccinated including:
- Get a COVID-19 viral test* 1-3 days before travel and only proceed with travel if your test is negative.
- Review and follow the CDC Safer Travel Tips, which provide recommendations on safer choices for persons who are not fully vaccinated including accommodations, gathering, food and more.
- After travel, get a viral COVID-19 test* 3-5 days after returning and quarantine for 7 days. If you opt not to test upon return, quarantine for 10 days.
