Tēnā koutou katoa
Ngā mihi nui, kia koutou katoa - Warm greetings to you all.
Welcome back to Term 2, it is great to see everyone again. We are looking forward to the big learning term ahead.
The TPS Cross Country is on the 9th of May @ Memorial Park. Everyone will be striving to give their best performance, all athletes who compete will win points for their House, and the top placeholders, for each year and gender group, will earn additional points. We do ask that children please wear sneakers to school for practising, and on the cross country day as we will be walking to and from Memorial Park. Whilst we do check the track for any hazards, there is still a risk of standing on something unpleasant. Please note that children wear their House coloured tee shirts for the cross-country day.
In May our school wide focus will be centred on an anti-bullying programme called “Kia Kaha”. We deliver this programme in association with the NZ Police. Kia Kaha consists of a comprehensive range of anti-bullying resources to help children and young people learn and apply a range of safe practices that they can use to build and maintain successful relationships throughout their lives.
Learning Conferences are on the 17th and 18th of May, and form a very valuable part of the learning process. Parents and students are invited to discuss with the teacher how their learning is going so far this year; what is working well and areas to focus on to make further progress. It is also a time to reflect on the goal set at the beginning of the year at our whānau connect meetings. Information regarding how to book a conference time is provided below. If your child began school this term, their teacher will arrange a time with you later in the term, once they have got to know them better.
We plan to host a hangi in Term 2, 28th June, to celebrate Matariki. The hangi will be experienced by all TPS learners, everyone will be involved in the food preparation and, of course, food consumption.
Thank you to Richard Earl for offering help to transfer stones, baskets and steel sleepers from Judea to our school.
We still need some helpers for the Matariki Breakfast to make and distribute toast and Milo.
If you are able to assist please contact Kelly Savage(lead teacher in charge of the Matariki breakfast and the hangi preparations) ksavage@tauranga.school.nz
Nau mai haere mai to Akshith Jeyasuthan, Ashton Greenwood, James Newton, Zaine Lile-Moore, Hunter Taylor, Luis Lopez, Elliott Robertson, Henrietta Laing, Benjamin Warrington, Jack & Ella Haywood, Radwan and Hosein Radwan, Luis Suarez, Sihun Ahn, Yehee Choi who started schooling at TPS recently.

At the end of last term, we received notification that our school has been successful in our application to TECT to fund 50% of the new obstacle/fitness course that we are building in July (behind the middle hub classrooms on 5th Avenue). TECT is contributing $50,000 for this project and we are extremely grateful for their support of our school community.
LEARNING CONFERENCES
Learning Conferences will be held on:
Wednesday 17th May 2023 3:30pm - 6:15pm
Thursday 18th May 2023 8:00am - 6:45pm
The conferences will be 15 minutes long. Students and parents will be meeting with their class teacher. We will discuss how your child has settled back into school, their learning progress, and also, how they are doing with the goals set at our Whānau Connect meeting at the beginning of the year. Any questions or comments you have regarding your child’s report can be discussed. It may also be time to set some new goals for your child. Please do not book a conference if your child has started school this term their teacher will arrange to meet with you at a later date.
To book your Learning Conference:
We use an online booking system for learning conferences.

We ask that, where possible, TPS children do not attend school on Thursday 18th May, unless attending their Learning Conference with you.
However, if your child/ren will be attending school, please register your child on our School Shop: https://www.tauranga.school.nz/school-shop
