Notes from the Principal
Dear West Family,
Thank you for another great week at West! I hope your fall is off to a great start.
We had an amazing author visit with John Schu on Wednesday. All of our students had the opportunity to watch his incredible presentation and hear his amazing story.
Mr. Schu provided many of our students with books to take home. Mrs. Lukaart provided each class with Mr. Schu’s book “This is a School.” This will help all of our students get the chance to experience his amazing story telling.
West also concluded the week with popcorn day, school store and the “Big Idea” assembly. Our PTC and Big Idea teams provided our students with awesome experiences and demonstrated their servant leadership through volunteerism.
Speaking of volunteers- we are excited to welcome in “Watch D.O.G.S” once again, after a two year hiatus. If you are a Father, grandfather, step-father, uncle, or any other father figure and would like to come to West to read to students, help out on the playground and/or in classrooms please let me know. You can send me an email- tquinn@nvps.net.
As the weather changes, please remind your children to wear the appropriate clothing to school. The temperature changes occur quickly throughout the day this time of year, so please help your students plan accordingly (Guidelines Below).
Finally, we have a lot of traffic congestion at West Oakview, both in the morning and afternoon. Please be careful and defensive when driving through our parking lot.
Please pull all the way forward when dropping off and picking up.
If you do not - it causes back ups
Please pull into a parking spot if you choose to walk or pick up your child.
If you do not - it slows the line down and is potentially dangerous for students
Please give yourself appropriate time to be here to drop off students at 8:05 to start the school day at 8:15am and pick them up to end the school day at 3:30pm.
We appreciate the attention to these requests.
West is…
Best,
Tony

West Oakview Book Fair
West Oakview will be hosting a book fair the week of October 17!
- Students will have opportunity to shop during their library time. Parents may visit the website listed below if they want to set up a virtual wallet for students. This allows students and parents to not worry about sending cash to school.
- Parents will have the opportunity to shop Tuesday, Oct. 18 and Wednesday, Oct. 19 when attending conferences.
More information will be coming home with students next week.

Nurse's Corner
- A fever is a temperature greater than 100.4F (according to the CDC). Do not send your child to school for 24 hours after the fever has broken and without the use of fever-reducing medication. A low grade fever is 99.0 - 100.3F. If your child is not feeling well enough to attend school, please keep them home.
- Although lice is not a communicable disease, it can be a nuance. As a parent, it is your responsibility to check and remove lice and nits from your child's hair. Please click here for the KCHD fact sheet.
- Continue to practice good hand and cough hygiene with your children.
- The weather is getting cooler, please make sure your student has the appropriate clothing for school and recess.
- For the younger children, it is a great idea to keep an extra pair of underwear and pants in a ziploc baggie in the bottom of their backpack (accidents happen).
