National Honor Society Welcomes 32 New Members

The Great Bend High School National Honor Society inducted 32 new members for the 22-23 school year on April 11, recognizing the achievements of students in the classroom and beyond.

Membership in NHS is reserved for juniors and seniors who exhibit exceptional character, demonstrate leadership, and have a minimum cumulative grade point average of 3.8.

“According to the NHS constitution, the purpose of NHS is ‘to create enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote leadership, and to develop character in our students,” shared Kayci Teghtmeyer, NHS advisor.

When the new inductees begin their membership in NHS at the start of the 2022-2023 school year, there will be a total of 60 student members. Each semester, members are expected to earn 15 hours of documented service from a variety of organizations or tasks.

“Each year, thousands of cumulative service hours by our members make a noticeable and positive impact on our school and community,” said Teghtmeyer. “Through this program, I have the privilege of seeing firsthand the growth and development of our students’ leadership skills and abilities.”

USD 428 set to open REACH Program, July 5-29

Elementary Family Engagement Coordinators are hard at work on a NEW program for July - REACH. This initiative seeks to keep students engaged, learning, and active during the summer. The free program will provide opportunities for Recreation, Enrichment, Academic, Community, and Health.

"In addition to addressing academic progress for students, the REACH program will be designed to use experiences and exploration to build content knowledge, grow relationships, boost confidence, and make summer break fun for students!" - Tricia Reiser, Assistant Superintendent

Based on the positive feedback from families surveyed last month, USD 428 has begun developing the REACH program. Registration is now open for students K-5 who are currently enrolled in USD 428. For staffing and efficiency, the REACH program will be consolidated at two elementary locations - Eisenhower Elementary and Park Elementary.
