The dolphin fish can be found in all tropical and sub-tropical waters with temperatures in the higher 60's to the mid 80's.
Bait, Techniques, & Equipment
Bucktails with a piece of pork rind are usually the best bait used to catch dolphin fish and also soft bait tails. Techniques used for catching dolphin fish are Trolling, Jigging, Casting, and also chunking. these are all outstanding techniques to catch the dolphin fish. The equipment you need will be a 7 foot rod rated for 20 to 30 lbs braid, lure weights of up to 1oz, a spinning reel rated for 20 to 30 lbs braided line ,20 to 30 pound fused line. 50 pound barrel swivel, and 4 to 7 circle hooks.
Legal Requirements
The fish should be at least fork length to catch it, only 10 per harvester day and cant exceed 60 per vessel per day. Also the fish must be in whole condition until its ashore, meaning heads,fins,and tails intact.

Dolphin fish can reach up to 6.8 feet and weigh up to 88 pounds.
They eat almost all forms of fish and even squids.
Dolphin fish also are known as the Mahi Mahi.
