We may not be in school, but... the learning doesn't stop! This week's theme is HOME
How to structure the day/week.
As we are getting into the stay at home schedule, it is important to remember to keep learning. Even though the regents exams are cancelled, you need to pass the classes to get credit for the regents you were scheduled to take. Following a regular schedule can help.
RECOMMENDED SCHEDULE:
- 40 minutes writing (2 times per day)(focus on English and Foreign Language)
- 40 minutes reading (2 times per day)(focus on Social Studies and Health)
- 40 minutes mathematics and science (2 times per day)(focus on science and math course)
- 40 minutes: physcial education
- 40 minutes: have fun, go outside if possible or learn something you don't have time for in school, like cooking, coding, animation, photography, drawing, or gardening
Writing Can Help You Get Through This
Writing has been a survival technique for people in tough situations forever. The New York Times recently highlighted diaries found from people forced into hiding during the Holocaust.
Read The Lost Diaries of War from the New York Times.
Slave diaries helped people record their dreams and helped them find the faith in themselves to know they are entitled to a better life. If you are tired of the screen, take a notebook and start writing. Use one of the following ideas to help you get started.
- Pick a room (bedroom, living room, kitchen, family room, even bathroom!) and describe your dream version of it. What would it look like? What would it have in it?
- Interview a person in your family about their childhood. Ask about their favorite: games to play, foods to eat, and music to listen to. Write it up in your journal.
- Create a comic strip about how you're feeling and what your day was like.
- Write down your dreams
- Take a walk and create a poem about the four things you notice on the walk.

What can you find on your walk? Post the photos to the stream on the FHS Library Class page.
Whatever you create, send it to me and together we can create a Pandemic Collection about the lives of students of Flushing High. Books can bring people together. Share your writings on the Flushing High School LIbrary Classroom Stream.
