Johnnycake Elementary School
Know Us. . . Know Our Strengths!
Message From Our Prinicipal
Hello Johnnycake Families! As we start our third quarter of instruction, we are also starting a new format for our school newsletter. Our goal is to provide our community with school related information that will help them remain in partnership with us. To do that, we’ve opted for a streamlined, visually engaging, and electronic newsletter that will be delivered directly to your email inbox. We will also use BCPS School Messenger, the Johnnycake Website, our Facebook page as well as our twitter account, to ensure that families receive the quarterly newsletter. It’s our first go-around with our new format so, we’d love to hear your feedback and comments.
Student report cards were sent home with students on Thursday, February 7, 2019. As you review your child’s academic progress, we’d ask that you sit with your child and include them in a conversation about their success and areas for growth. Setting goals with your child will help them see the importance of persevering through a task and give them the opportunity to experience success in short increments. As always, I invite you to conference with your child’s teacher and encourage you to speak with them regarding your child’s progress and ways in which you can support their learning at home.
Thank you for your continued support of Johnnycake staff and students!

3. The documents can be emailed to dphillips3@bcps.org, faxed to 410-887-1048, or sent in with your student.

From the Johnnycake Nurse’s Office
Cold and flu season is here! Please remember that hand washing is the easiest and best thing for everyone to do to keep from getting sick! In the event that your child comes down with a fever, please remember to keep him or her home until he or she has been fever-free for at least 24 hours. Also, if your child is prescribed antibiotics, please do not send them to school until they have been on them for 24 hours. Please, don’t forget to send a letter and/or email to your child’s teacher explaining any absences.
Let’s work together to keep all the students at Johnnycake healthy!
Physical Education News
Caregivers, I truly hope your students have come home and shared some of the fun physical activities we have learned about and participated in during their physical education class during the second marking period. I really hope they shared their new abilities to jump rope, play floor hockey, and bowl.
During the third marking period all students can look forward to volleyball unit where students will learn the bump and the set, after volleyball we will get into our overhand throwing unit where all grades will have a chance to participate in our Magic Ball Club, where students work through a progressions of throws and catches. We will then get into 2 of the favorite units a Johnnycake to wrap up the third quarter, our scooter relay unit and the basketball unit.
Please remind your students to wear tennis shoes on the days that they have physical education class. When the weather starts to get cooler, if you put your student in boots to come to school please try to remember to put a pair of tennis shoes in their backpack to change into for PE class.
