Hate List

Summary

Valerie Leftman and Nick Levil made a list of people that they hated, which they called the Hate List. One day at school, Nick decided to shoot all those people on that list, Nick also shot himself after it. Valerie is being blamed for the shooting, but she had no idea Nick was going to do it. She is having to deal with everything without any help from her old friends and her family. Valerie also has to deal with Nick's actions and the hurt he has caused lots of people.

Reflection Questions

Q: What is my favorite part of the story? Why?

A: I really liked the flashback to the day pf the shooting. I liked this part of the book because it had so much detail about how Valerie was feeling and what was going on.

Q: What is some advice I would give the main character? Why?

A: I would tell her to be herself around everyone. I would tell her that because she really wanted Nick to like her so she changed how she dressed and acted.

Q: If I could change something about the book, what would it be and why?

A: I would change the ending of the book because I was expecting something more and it kinda just stopped when she left for college.

Personal Recommendation

I thought that the book The Hate List was really good. At times it was very sad because so many students died but overall I thought I was great. My favorite part was the flashback to the day of the shooting. There wasn't any part of the book that I thought was boring. Anyone who likes a little drama and mystery will enjoy this book.

Jennifer Brown is the author of the Hate List. It was the first she had written. She had been gotten the idea to write this book from a Nickelback song called "If Anyone Cared". Jennifer lives in Kansas City, Missouri, with her husband and 3 kids. She has also written other books called Thousand Words, Perfect Escape and The Bitter End.
