The J-Hawk Experience!
Info you need to know for week of March 5-March 8!
Message from the principal
UHS seniors, Maya Sims and Emily DeDoncker, served as co-hosts for this event that featured other UHS students who spoke about their experience as freshmen and keys to success. UHS administrators, student support specialists, and counselors, touched on the key 14 points to the UHS experience. Other UHS students highlighted their UHS experience through performances of jazz combos and show choirs and videos of athletic teams. Visitors also learned about the importance of service to community and involvement in UHS Silver Cord.
We have much to be grateful for in Urbandale and look forward to welcoming these students as freshmen next year!
Sincerely,
Tim Carver
Principal

Parent Survey...closes Monday, March 5th
The Urbandale Community School District is on a continuous journey to make our schools the best places for students to learn, staff to work, and parents to send their children for a good education. In this effort, we appreciate your support. It is important to gather feedback from you to celebrate successes and identify areas for growth. Please take a few minutes and complete this Parent Satisfaction Survey to help provide this feedback.
Once the survey is complete, the results will be analyzed by an outside organization. The data from the survey will be sent to each school and the Superintendent. Then, the results of the survey will be shared with parents and the community.
The survey can be accessed online at this link: UCSD Parent Satisfaction Survey. The link offers the survey in English, Spanish, and Bosnian.
Important message from School Nurse, Mrs. Ness, for current UHS juniors who will be seniors in 2018-19
Last year, the Iowa Department of Public Health, Bureau of Immunization, issued a new vaccine rule that requires all students entering or transferring into the 12th grade and born after September 15, 1999, show vaccine documentation of two doses of the meningococcal vaccine, or one dose if the vaccine was received when the student was 16 years of age or older. All students entering or transferring into 7th grade and born after September 15, 2004, must show documentation of having received the first dose of the meningococcal vaccine.
Meningococcal disease is a very serious, potentially life threatening, disease. The meningococcal vaccine is 85-100 percent effective at preventing infection from the subtypes of meningococcus found in the vaccine.
Please check your child’s immunization records. By law, if your 12th grader or 7th grader is not fully immunized for meningitis, they will not be allowed to attend school, sports, and school-related activities starting day 1 of the 2018 – 2019 school year (August 23, 2018). If they have not had the required vaccine, please set up an appointment with their doctor to get their vaccines up-to-date as soon as possible and before the 2018 – 2019 school year.
Spring break is a perfect opportunity to get your child caught up on the meningitis vaccine and all other required and recommended vaccines. During the summer, back-to-school and sports physicals fill up fast and your child may not be able to see their provider in time. If you do not have health insurance and a doctor, please reach out to your school nurse for assistance.
