October 2, 2023
Recently, I had the opportunity to visit Ms. Caya’s 5th grade classroom where students demonstrated how they are living out our Ben Franklin values of being empathetic, caring for others, accepting & celebrating differences, and taking responsibility as they conducted social interviews with their classmates. During these interviews, students talked about moments where they felt angry or embarrassed and how they responded. Students were sharing with one another openly and honestly and were able to come up with good examples of moments they experienced these different emotions. In building our social and emotional skills and awareness, it is important that we are able to name the emotions we are feeling and think about the choices that we make in response (good or bad). This allows us to reflect and respond appropriately in the future!
I will continue to share classroom moments with you throughout the year via this newsletter. I would love to share moments you hear of at home as well! Please use this form to share a short story you hear from your child(ren) or give a brief note of appreciation to our staff. I will share these “shout outs” and “memorable moments” with teachers via email at the end of each month. This will ensure that our staff knows our appreciation not only during staff appreciation week, but all year long!

REMINDER: SPEAK UP SPEAK OUT FORM
#SeeSayDay was September 25th and this is a day where everyone is encouraged and reminded that if you “see something to say something.” We want to remind Franklin Public Schools families of a tool we have to help assist with this if there is something you or your child feels the need to report. The District is part of “Speak Up Speak Out Wisconsin” for threat or incident reporting. Click on this link to view the form. You will notice as you start typing the name of your school, the choices for schools narrows so you can select your school. By selecting your school, this report goes to the principal or local law enforcement when needed. The video below also gives a good overview of how “Speak Up Speak Out Wisconsin” works and is good to review with your family.
Starting with this newsletter, we will have a button at the bottom of all of our newsletters for the Speak Up Speak Out Wisconsin form that you can click on for quick access to report incidents if needed. You can also add the Speak Up Speak Out App on your phone for quick reporting by utilizing these links: iOS | Android
Student Engagement Survey
On October 2 - 6 your student will be participating in a Student Engagement Survey. This survey was written by the district and takes less than 10 minutes to complete. It asks students to respond to questions in areas related to environment, learning, and relationships. Information from this survey is used by teachers and administrators to identify areas of improvement related to the student experience. If you have questions about the survey, please contact Steffany Jewell, Steffany.Jewell@franklin.k12.wi.us.
