Hickory Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser Continues Through October 14th-Prizes can still be Earned!

Hickory students had a BLAST at today's Walk-A-Thon!


The fundraiser will continue through Friday, October 14th. Remember that the PTO is offering Rewards and Incentives for both individuals and classrooms!


INCENTIVES

-Each student with $50 in donations will receive a Glow Party Prize bag.

-Each student with $250 in donation will receive an exclusive ice cream party (at a later date in November)


TOP 3 SCHOOLWIDE EARNERS:

-3RD PLACE: Prize basket which includes a $25 gift card and a Frigid Frog gift card.

Picture Retake Day is COMING!! - October 27th

Fall Picture Retake Day is coming up on Thursday, October 27th.


If your child was not in attendance on the first picture day in August, teachers will send them to get their picture taken.


If you were unhappy with your child's first picture, just send in the original picture package on or before Picture Day/October 27th.

Pumpkin Book Character Project

Pumpkin Book Character Project

Hickory Families are invited to create a Pumpkin Book Character to drop off at school beginning Monday, October 24th. Students who participate will be entered in a drawing for a free 30 minute jump pass to SkyZone. 10 Jump Passes will be awarded.


Here are the rules:


  • Decorate your pumpkin to look like your favorite book character
  • DO NOT CARVE your pumpkin! They will rot!
  • Use a variety of mediums such as paint, yarn, glitter, felt, googly eyes, etc.
  • You can props or more than one pumpkin
  • Pumpkins can be dropped off beginning Monday, October 24th
  • Pumpkins need to be picked up by Monday, November 7th after the Fall Family Reading Night.

  • Turn in the bottom of the flyer attached below with the pumpkin.

Hickory Family Reading Night-Monday, November 7th, 5pm-7pm

Dear Hickory Parents/Guardians:

Calling all Superheroes! Join us on Monday, November 7th between 5pm and 7pm.

Come dress in your best superhero outfits!

There will be Read Alouds, Photo Area, Book Vending Machine Raffles & Prize Basket, Create your own Mask activity, comic writing, and food!

It will be an amazing evening!

Dear Hickory Families,


We are making plans for our annual Veterans' Day Program. All veterans associated with Hickory students are invited to attend our program on November 11th at 10:00 AM. We ask that anyone planning to attend the program preregister by clicking on the link below and entering in the required information. This will expedite the check in procedure.

Make sure to register all adults attending. Adults not preregistered by 8:30 AM on November 11th will have a longer check in process. Make sure to bring ID with you.


We will begin the check in procedure at 9:30 AM. We ask that our guests wait until 9:30 to enter the school so that we can make sure our students are all in the building for the start of the school day.

Hickory Elementary Veterans Day Program - November 11th

A UNIQUE LEARNING OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL HICKORY STUDENTS -DREAMBOX MATH

Dear Families,

Don't forget that there is a unique learning opportunity that students can take advantage of from home. In addition to classroom instruction and learning at school, we are providing an online supplement to deepen understanding and practice in math.

Our goal is for students to spend 60 minutes each week engaged in DreamBox math activities. Some of these minutes will take place during the school day, but not the full 60 minutes. Please encourage your students to participate in DreamBox at home.


Look for your student's login information inside their take home folder on the green paper.


PLEASE DO NOT HELP! I know this seems to be the opposite of everything we ask you to do; however, DreamBox will adapt based on the accuracy of your child's response. Please only support by asking more questions and not providing answers.


DON'T FORGET to celebrate your child's learning!

Your Child's Attendance is Important to Us!

Your Child's Attendance is Important to Us!

As we start the school year, we want to remind all of our parents/guardians of the importance of having your child come to school. When a child misses 10 or more days of school-for any reason (including prearranged, ill, medical appointments, bereavement etc)- we see a negative academic impact. Your child is an important part of Hickory Elementary and we are excited to help them succeed.

To this end, we want to review the attendance policies and expectations.

1. After the fifth (5) day missed, a courtesy letter will be sent out to parent/guardians informing parents that absences are beginning to accumulate.
2. After the eighth (8) absence, a second attendance letter will be sent home stating that an excessive number of absences have occurred.
3. After the tenth (10) absence the school will work with the family to create an attendance contract.
4. Upon the fifteenth (15) absence, excused or unexcused a referral will be made to Project Attend.
