Working the Willkie Way!
Knowing your "Why."
I also need to send a shout out to those of you who have already created and implemented the FIRE expectations in your classroom. Below you will see a couple of examples of how different departments and grade levels have made it their own.
Again, I am grateful for all the hard work you have put in to ensure our kids know the expectations.
With Badger Pride,
Danny

Faculty Meeting Friday 1/13/17
Speaking of Friday...
During the rotations I want to encourage you to spend time going over your Classroom FIRE as the expectation is that everyone will be implementing the Classroom FIRE on Tuesday when we return. You can have the posters for your room made through the library. You can also review the Common Area FIRE at that time as well.
One of the rotations will be grade level team meetings. This will be like a short pep rally for each grade level. The administration will be delivering a message to each class regarding our vision, values, and dreams for Ed Willkie. Details and the schedule for the day will be sent out soon.
Laptops and Technology
That being said, I want to remind everyone that these laptops are essentially like checking out text books or other resource materials. If damage occurs then the expectation is that the person responsible for the damage is held responsible. Unfortunately, we can't hold someone responsible if we don't know who caused the damage, which is why we have procedures in place that will help us know if and when a computer is damaged and who caused the damage...if the procedures are followed.
When we know who damaged the computers then we can address it with that person and their parents.
To that end, I have attached a picture of the folder that goes out with the computers that lists the expectations. Inside each folder is a form in which you should use to check the computer out to the student. The key is that you must take the time to check out the computer for damage when they return the computer to you and note any damage before and after they turn it in. When you check these out and back in you are signing off on the fact that they are in the same condition as when the student took it for use. This is imperative.
We have 30 additional new laptops that are about to go into circulation next week. We cannot afford to have these damaged as well. Please, make sure that you are helping us help our students learn to be responsible for the school's equipment.
Finally, when you want laptops for classroom use, you need to be the one to check out and return the computers to the library. Please do not ever send students to check out and return the laptops to the library. Thank you.
Makers Space is off and running.
The plan is to be open before school, after school till 4, and during all lunches. This is the only time students will be required to obtain/present a pass to come to the library before and after school. Passes will be distributed on a first come, first served basis on Fridays. This means a couple of changes to our library routine on Mondays. The library will be open on Mondays before and after school only to those students with a makerspace pass. As for advisory, in order for me to be open for all grade level lunches, the library will be closed 4th-6th periods on Mondays. To allow for more time during lunches, I would students to be able to bring/eat their lunch in the library on Mondays.
I know many of you use the library for students who need to make up test and other work. I would respectfully request that we try and schedule makeup test and other work that needs to be complete on Mondays during periods 4-6 either before or after school on on a different day of the week.
Thanks for your help and if you get a chance you should stop by and see what kind of cool things they are doing on Maker Mondays!
