3GStrong - Classroom Meeting Update

This week, in class meetings, your child has been learning to spot good and bad manners. Manners are really just the “rules” to social behavior so that everyone knows how to act appropriately in social situations. It makes people more comfortable when they don’t have to wonder how to act or how others will act.

Children must be taught those rules to help them “win the game” with friends, adults, and throughout their lives. In class meetings, our students were in a Top Secret Manners Training School to learn about several of the following:

Listening completely- without being distracted

Looking people in the eye when they’re speaking

Smiling when you greet someone and saying “Hello!”

Calling people by their name when you address them

Respecting other people’s space and things

Covering our nose/mouths when we sneeze or cough

Saying please/thank you

Asking instead of telling someone for something (example: Would you get that for me please? Vs. Get that for me please)

Knowing the rules is so important to put kids on an even playing field. We also talked about when we have manners/self control issues, it’s a good time to ask ourselves what it would look like if everyone did what we are doing. Parents can ask this question to their children too. If it wouldn't be okay for everyone in the room to act like we are right now, if it would be too loud or too crazy, maybe we need to change our actions.

Be “manners detectives” with your child this weekend. Keep an eye out to spot good and bad manners and discuss what the behaviors are and why they’re important to know. We must have grace, grit, and a growth mindset in teaching manners to children. Teaching them the “rules to the game” in social behavior helps make them win by being 3GStrong!

Good Morning Bledsoe – Friday, March 2nd

WHY:

JDRF is the leading global organization to fund Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) research.

Wakeland's head coach, Barry Rose, has a son that was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a few years ago. Therefore, this is a cause near and dear to both team's hearts. The boys will be selling t-shirts for $10/shirt.

ALL proceeds will go to JDRF.

We'd love to see you at GMB Friday, March 2nd, to help these boys try and "strike out" juvenile diabetes (and Mrs. Swiney!).

T-shirts will be sold immediately following GMB on March 2nd and before school March 5th-7th. Cash/check only please.

DETAILS:

· For each T-shirt purchased, your child or family's name will be entered into a drawing for a $200 Visa Gift Card at the Reedy/Wakeland baseball game on March 21st. If you'd rather not purchase a T-shirt, but would like to donate, for every $10 donated, your family will receive 3 tickets for the Visa gift card drawing.

· We are asking every student that purchases a T-shirt to wear their shirt to school Tuesday, March 21st, to take a group picture showing our community’s support. In addition, anyone that wears their t-shirt to the Wakeland/Reedy game that night (7:30 at Reedy) receives free admission to the game!
