Frontier Parent Newsletter
September News
Note From Miss Rutan:
This year has been off to a wonderful start. It is so nice to start a year with joy and a normal pacing. Our students and families have always been the best. As we have begun the year, students have gotten right back into their routines and the Frontier Way. I love how respectful, responsible, and safe our students are. Our theme for the year is, "Good Things Grow Here." We are focused on growing the good that is at Frontier and helping our students set goals and focus on the growth they make throughout the year. Thank you for the support you give to Frontier. We hope you all can make it to the Back to School Night on Tuesday.
If you have any questions, or concerns please contact me at rutan.katie@westada.org or by phone at (208) 350-4190.
Sincerely,
Katie Rutan
Principal

Fall Emergency Drills
Fire Drill: It is a state law that all school buildings must conduct a fire drill each month in case of emergency or a need to exit students from the building. These drills take less than five minutes to complete each month and our students are great at getting out and getting back quietly and quicikly.
Reverse Evacuation: A reverse evacuation helps students know what to do in case we need to get students back into the building quickly. This drill is practiced at the end of every fire drill and also at the end of our i-Ready recesses on Fridays. Students know the signal to go back into the building. In an emergency situation this is combined with an announcement over the loud speaker that alerts teachers to the doors and gets students into the buildings quickly. It is most often used for weather and lightening.
Hall Check: Hall checks are for those times where we may have an incident or an emergency inside a building and we need the area clear of children. This is used most often if we have a medical emergency and a need for an ambulance to transport. Student remain in class and will continue to learn during this drill.
Lock Downs: Lock downs are practiced twice a year. During a lock down students will remain in the classroom until a uniformed police officer releases the room. Drills take about 15 minutes to complete and our staff are trained for these drills. It is important for us to help our little humans understand that this is to keep them safe and not to go too in depth as to any part of the situation that seems scary. They understand they are serious but we try to use verbiage that will help them be prepared and not scared.
If you have any questions about our emergency procedures or the safety of our building, please feel free to reach out to Miss Rutan, at rutan.katie@westada.org or by phone at 208-350-4190.
Parking Lot Procedures
* Please remain in your vehicle during pick up and drop off. If your child needs assistance, please park and walk them to the sidewalk. This helps keep the line moving for all of our families.
*If a staff member is waving you ahead, please pull forward to allow more cars up to the front drop off and pick up area.
*Children enter at the front of the parking lot and not on the sides, this is for safety. We have numbered signs to help efficiently have students ready for when their parents' car pulls up.
