Griffin Guide
September 9, 2022
Dear Families,
Your scholars are growing each day. We have finished up our first round of NWEA testing and we are seeing major improvements from the beginning of last year. We are ready to support scholars for even more growth!
Our mission is to "Educate every child every day; whatever it takes," and our vision is "Excellence for every student and staff member!" This is our promise to you and your scholar.
Here at Highlands we are Unleashing New Opportunities everyday because WE ARE UNO!
Sincerely,
Ms. Griffin

Attendance Goal of 98%
We have set a goal to have students reading at grade level by the end of the year. This is only possible if students show up to school. We are trying to reach a 98% attendance rate each month. Review the chart to see your scholar's grade level attendance rate. Please help us by ensuring your scholar is at school every single day and on time.
Great job Kinder parents! Your grade level had a 4% increase! Let's keep it up so we can reach our goal.
WE CAN DO THIS! WE ARE UNO!

SCHOOL LUNCH UPDATES
Parents and Guardians,
Thank you for making this a great start to the 2022-23 school year.
This letter is to remind you that there have been school meal changes for this school year. As you may know, CHISD and schools across the country provided free breakfast and lunch for all scholars during the COVID pandemic. Starting this school year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is no longer allowing school districts to provide free lunch for all students.
You may have received previous communication regarding prek and kindergarten scholars receiving free lunch this year, that is incorrect. I apologize for the miscommunication. All elementary scholars lunch price is based on their free/reduced application eligibility status.
Our cafeteria staff will never deny our students a nutritious lunch, but after three meal charges scholars are served an alternative meal.
As a CHISD parent you have a few options for your child’s lunch meals:
Send your child to school with a nutritional sack lunch from home
Complete the free and reduced lunch form to see if your child qualifies for free lunch at school. CHISD will take applications and use family income to qualify scholars for free, reduce-price, or paid meals.
Allow your child to purchase their lunch at school. You will need to create an account on MyPaymentsPlus and add funds to your child’s account. You can access MyPaymentsPlus here.
CHISD school lunch prices for 2022-23 are:
Breakfast Meals- Free for all scholars
Lunch Meals
- $2.75 - paid lunch
- $.40 - reduced price lunch (for those who qualify)
Thank you for your attention to this matter. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to contact me.
Sincerely,
Ms. Griffin
