Brown Bear, Brown Bear...
After reading the Brown Bear story, the children made a bear and wrote what they would see looking at me. We had purple jelly fish, yellow unicorns, and black cows looking at us!
Reading
Partner reading is an important element to our reading workshop. Students have one book between them, and one person is reading or retelling the book to their partner.
Word Work
The students have their first word list in their word tab in their binders. We have been practicing writing them and reading them in school. One way was to do scratch art. This was a favorite! Please have your child read over their words nightly.
Library is open!
Mrs. Sayre unveiled our new LRC. It is beautiful!!!! After having the tour, the students were able to check out one book. Your child is allowed to take the book home to read, but just make sure it comes back by Thursday which is our library day.
Second Steps
Mrs. Ross will be coming in each week to do lessons from Second Steps program. This week she concentrated on identifying feelings that we have throughout the day and how we felt on the first day of school.
Buddies
Our buddies made us a book for us to keep! They took the information that they gathered when we first met and made a I like, you like, we like... book. They are so adorable. We know the 5th graders put a lot of work into them! Now we have another book that we can add to our book boxes for our independent reading time.
Graph
Outside, taped to the wall, were construction paper squares. We lined up according to our favorite color. We counted each color and then once inside, we colored a bar graph to represent each color. We made several observations about our graph--3 of the colors had the same amount, and blue had the most.
Science
We couldn't taste the rainbow but Skittles certainly has alot of colors in the package. We wondered what would happen if you put Skittles into some warm water? Besides, dissolving the color, the S from the candy, sank to the bottom. Pretty cool!
Kennel Club
We were able to take our 15 minute break and socialize and get to know the other children in Mrs. Schulte's class. Right now, we have a tie for Kennel Club-Mrs. Hall:2, Students: 2
Top Dog
Abby did some serious Jedi training and had her picture taken with several Star War characters as well as a few Disney friends. She is not afraid of roller coasters, loves to vacation in Disney and wants to be an ice-skater when she grows up!
