Secondary Newsletter
End of Distance Learning Week 9 / 21st May
Dear All
As the weeks pass by and the end of Ramadan approaches, I see this as a good time to update you on things within the Secondary School via this Principal’s Newsletter.
I start by thanking you all, as parents, for the considerable support you are clearly providing for your children during this ongoing period of Distance Learning. Our attendance rates and engagement in lessons continue to surpass all expectations, and our students are showing admirable conscientiousness in their completion of learning tasks. Each year, as a non-Muslim myself, I admire enormously how extraordinarily well our students manage their fasting alongside their daily school commitments. Amidst all that has gone around us with lockdown, my admiration this year is equally applicable as we factor in the added difficulties of motivation when our students are not able to enjoy and gain from the social friendship benefits and the ‘in-person’ teacher-encouragement that comes as an everyday part of being onsite and in school.
From a lesson quality viewpoint, I know that our distance learning standards remain high as the Secondary Leadership Team “checks in” to lessons on a daily basis to monitor the learning and teaching. Simply to say that I have been delighted with the wholehearted commitment shown by teachers and students alike. Connected directly to quality assurance, this week we welcomed Ministry-appointed inspectors to our distance learning programme as part of a formal Evaluation Process and, whilst we await their report on our AJAC provision, I am always keen to welcome anybody wishing to look more closely at the ever-increasing quality of what we are doing in school.
It has also been reassuring to see so many of you renewing school places for your sons and daughters for next year. Student numbers in the secondary school continue to rise, and I urge those of you who have not yet re-enrolled to do so with some immediacy to give yourselves ‘peace of mind’ that the academic places you seek for next year are secured. Indeed, do feel free to share with friends in the community how much improvement is taking place at Ajman Academy - we welcome new students warmly at the start of each new year, and this is always the most ideal time for families to make any changes of school in the smoothest possible way.
In the background, much planning goes on in preparation for the next academic year. Once again, I am delighted to confirm that all teaching vacancies have been filled and the quality of new staff coming in will add a further impetus to our school improvement journey. All staff appointed are specialists in their subject area, impressively qualified and as eager to join AJAC as we are to welcome them. New staff bring in different ideas and energies, an eagerness to impress and external experiences that we can all tap into. Rest assured that your sons and daughters will remain in very good teaching hands next year!
As the upcoming break beckons, I wish you all some further quality time with your families and a very sincere “Eid Mubarak.”
