Basketball Takes Seattle by Storm
The Knights of View Park High School
What a way to end 2015! The View Park High School basketball team took a journey to Seattle, Washington during the last week of December to participate in the Tournament of Champions Holiday Classic. Over four days, three coaches and 13 players (two sophomores joined juniors and seniors) represented the only California team when they competed among athletes from around Washington state; Las Vegas, Nevada and Canada.
The Knights were considered the underdog and were placed in the featured game during the tournament. Don’t underestimate a Knight! Our boys upset the home team and defeated them in overtime. Team captain and senior Antoine Jenkins put up a three point buzzer beater and sealed the win for View Park. Of the 71 points that the team scored, Jenkins was responsible for 36 of them.
When not on the basketball court, the View Park contingency were treated like VIPs at the Seattle Space Needle. The day was so clear that they had a clear view of the city and of Mt. Ranier. The team also toured the University of Washington. The Alaska Air arena on campus was open and they were able to watch the Huskies basketball team practice.
