GWHS - IB News
October 2019
Happy Fall!
Thank you for your continued support of Gateway High School and the IB Programme! We hope you are as proud of your students' successes as we are! The last day for first quarter is Friday, October 11. Please check in with your students regarding grades and classwork before we reach the end of this grading period.
IB Acronym of the Month - EE (Extended Essay)
What is the EE?
It is an independent piece of research, culminating with a 4,000-word paper.
The extended essay provides:
- practical preparation for undergraduate research
- an opportunity for students to investigate a topic of personal interest to them, which relates to one of the student's six Diploma Programme (DP) subjects, or takes the interdisciplinary approach of a World Studies extended essay.
Through the research process for the extended essay, students develop skills in:
- formulating an appropriate research question
- engaging in a personal exploration of the topic
- communicating ideas
- developing an argument.
Participation in this process develops the capacity to analyse, synthesize and evaluate knowledge.
Seniors are currently midway through their EEs and Juniors will begin theirs during second semester. Click here to view exemplar essays that have been graded, annotated, and published by IB.
