Claires Court Bulletin

Another term goes by, and I think it would be fair to say that we all need a chance to recharge our batteries! This week has been a reflection of our term as a whole - successful, rewarding, busy, exhausting, and above all, immensely enjoyable. I would like to thank so many of you for joining us at our Workshare event yesterday, which hopefully provided you with the opportunity to see how hard your son has been working, and also how much he has been learning. Moving around the forms, I saw many proud boys (and parents!) reflecting on some beautifully presented books, along with some Chromebook work and investigations.

I hope that you will have the chance to join us for our first ever Art Exhibition on Tuesday afternoon in the mezzanine from 2.30pm. Boys from Year 3 - 6 have been participating in a ‘Still life’ drawing competition and all of their efforts will be on display. I hope you enjoy our gallery today which is filled with sponsored walk snaps!

As we close for the term, I would like to wish you all a lovely Easter break. I know that some of our boys will be in school over the holidays for sports camp, some for chess, and some of our older boys will be going to France on the school ski trip - I hope there is plenty of snow for them! I am taking my family down to the Dordogne in the first week, where I am hoping there is no snow!!! Plenty of sunshine would be nice! Wherever you are spending your holidays, I wish you all a wonderful break.

An email with more details was sent home on Monday 20 March. If you have any queries, please email our activities co-ordinator rather than calling the school offices as this will avoid any delay.

Parent Questionnaire

Our annual parental questionnaire will be emailed to all parents on Monday. Your views are important to us, please take this opportunity to provide us with feedback.

They have a choice of three animals to draw. These are on loan from Reading Museum. The finished pieces will be judged by Ms Ackland -Snow, Artist in Residence at CCSB and Mr Wareing, Head of Art at CCSG.

“If we are victorious in one more battle … we shall be utterly ruined.”

Year 3 had a very enjoyable in-house football tournament on Saturday morning before joining the Easter Egg Hunt. This event gave the Year 3 pupils a taste of what it will be like to play competitive matches against other schools next year. The U9A & B teams travelled to Oratory Prep to compete in a 6-a-side tournament. The A team came 3rd losing in the quarter finals to The Beacon. The B team went into the Plate competition where they gained a place in the final due to a golden goal against Gayhurst A Team. Unfortunately they lost the final against Whitchurch to a golden goal against them. The U11 rugby 7s team went to a festival at Caldicott. A full report of this event can be found in the News section of the bulletin below.

On Wednesday the U11A team competed in the Dair House Tournament. Please see the news section below for more details on this event.

House matches have been taking place this week. The standard of football has been good with wins for Cliveden and Fawley in the Year 3 and Year 4 competitions. In Year 5 there were A and B competitions, both of these were won by Dorney.

Berkshire Chess
Congratulations to Year 3 pupil Moksha Suriarachchi for scoring 2/3 points in his three games last weekend whilst playing for the Berkshire U11 team.

Delancey Chess
Well done to all the boys who took part in our Delancey qualifying tournament this term. Those boys earning 17 points qualify automatically for The Megafinal to be held on Bank Holiday Monday (1/5/17) at The Downs School, Compton, Newbury, Berkshire, RG20 6AD. Organiser: Mr Nigel Dennis –

Boys who have not scored 17 or more points may still qualify if they are the top scorer in their year.

Those wishing to progress should enter online at Megafinal registration using the School Code: 10623. The cost of entry is £15 per child or £12 each for a pair of siblings.

There is a further chance to qualify through our Lent Term tournament on Monday 2-6pm.

The good news for those boys still seeking to qualify is that those boys who have already qualified will be discounted from the qualification process (though they can still win the tournament of course). I have been personally given the approval for this by FIDE Master and Delancey organiser, Sarah Hegarty. This is because many of the boys missing out on qualification at Claires Court would qualify with ease at most other schools. This offers us a fantastic opportunity to get many more Claires Court boys along to the Megafinal.
