Director's Newsletter
January 12th, 2018
From the Director
I hope all of you had a restful winter break and a joyful holiday season. It was wonderful to see students return on Monday looking happy, rejuvenated, and ready for Term 3!
As you may have heard, our middle school assistant, Ms. Jihae Ko, has left CDS to pursue a different path. She will be sincerely missed and we appreciate the excellent work she did for CDS Middle School while she was with us.
We are also happy to welcome our new assistant, Ms. Hyun Seung Lee. She is excited to be working with us and is learning about our school very quickly. Feel free to drop by the MS Office any time and say hello to her.
This week, students jumped right back into action with a Spelling Bee, Term 3 Dalton Cup (Dodgeball), along with their regular academic work. There are many events on the horizon including our Term 3 Assembly, Volleyball & Table Tennis season, a 5th grade Futsal Tournament, SKYMUN, KIMEA events, and more. Please find details within the newsletter.
In closing, we are pleased this week to welcome 10 new students to our CDS community. We look forward to getting to know them and their families better in the coming months.

MS Spelling Bee - Results from the Preliminary Round
During Thursday Long House, CDS Middle School students participated in the preliminary round of our first Spelling Bee!
High School organizers and hosts, Jenny Choi and Hyewon Hong were happy to see real enthusiasm from our 5th and 6th grade students, and some great results in 7th and 8th grade as well.
As you may recall, only four students from each grade could make the preliminary cut and move on to the final round.
Looking through the results, however, only two students in each grade were clear winners and the rest were 3 and 4 way ties! This means we must have a tie breaker round on Monday morning during House to determine the remaining two from each grade who will go on to the final rounds on January 22nd.
Clear Winners Moving on to the Final Round on January 22nd during C.C.

SKYMUN - South Korea Youth Model United Nations
Hello 7th & 8th Graders! CDS has just been invited to participate in SKYMUN again this year! SKYMUN V will be held on March 3rd, 2018, from 9 AM to 7 PM at Seoul Foreign School.
SKYMUN, hosted jointly by Seoul Foreign School and Korea International School, is an annual one-day Model United Nations conference in its fifth iteration. The conference is dedicated to fostering an environment in which student delegates from grades 7 to 10 can freely explore their potential to become young diplomats in an increasingly globalized world. Furthermore, the conference is an opportunity for 10th and 11th graders to become chairs and for 12th graders to give back as mentors. The theme for the upcoming conference is “United In Action”.
If you would like to participate, please sign up using your Dalton email address. It will require one C.C. period per week for approximately one month prior to the conference.
