Note from the Principal
Another Fabulous Fall Festival
I would like to send out a huge THANK-YOU to our wonderful PTA and all of the volunteers that helped make last Friday night’s Boone Fall Festival such a great success. It is always fun to see the children and adults enjoying a great community event. We had many visitors and returning students stop by. It was great evening filled with food, fun, and games.
October Parent Coffee
We will be hosting our second Parent Coffee tomorrow, October 27th at 8:00am. For this event we will be meeting in our brand new Maker Space!!!! Topics for this Parent Coffee will be a quick overview of the Maker Space, a deeper look into our Social/Emotional Learning campus initiative, and a presentation by Ms. Lozo, our counselor, on “Using Positive Discipline at Home.” I hope to see many of you there!!
November at Boone
November is yet another full month here at Boone. On November 2nd, at 5:00pm, our third graders will be presenting their music program for our parents in the cafeteria. They will also perform for the students Friday morning at our morning assembly.
We will be having our traditional Veterans Day recognition at 7:45am in the school cafeteria on November 9th. All veterans and families are welcome. We are having our recognition on November 9th this year, since November 10th is a student holiday for all schools in the Crockett Vertical Team.
On Thursday, November 16th, at 5:00pm, the Fourth Grade Choir will be performing their fall concert for parents and families and will perform for the students on Friday, November 17th at morning assembly.
Also, don’t forget that our Thanksgiving Break this year will be from November 20th through November 24th.
Join the Boone Playground Improvement Committee
Last year, we formed the Boone Playground Improvement Team. The primary purpose of this team is to examine ways that we can increase and improve the current playground equipment and grounds here at Boone. This group is primarily responsible for planning the improvements that you have seen in the grounds this past summer. Thanks to the generous donation from our PTA, we were able to add the new fencing, enlarge and improve the PreK play area, as well as add the stump and boulder formations that are located in different areas in the playground.
It is now time to continue that work. Building on that plan, we need to evaluate where we are, what is already being implemented, and begin looking to future improvements. This year, in addition to this committee’s work, we have a very active PTA team that is currently upgrading our school garden area. We need to look at how we can best coordinate both groups’ efforts and continue to provide our children with the best improvements available. The committee will meet once or twice a month for the next several months. We will be meeting on the third Tuesday of each month at 4:00pm in the school library.
If you are interested in being a part of this work and building the future for our Boone students, please use the following link to provide me with your contact information. Here is the link to use to join this important team: http://tinyurl.com/hh7dux7. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at 512-414-5311.
Important Reminder about November 10th
Just a quick reminder that Friday, November 10th, is a student holiday for our students at Boone, Covington MS, and Crockett HS in addition to the other schools in the Crockett Vertical Team. This is NOT a student holiday for ALL schools in the Austin ISD. The day will be an additional day of Professional Development for our teachers and staff. If you have students at other campuses in the Austin ISD make sure you contact that campus directly to see if students will be in school or not.
