What is Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)?
SEL at Sunset Elementary
This year, especially in light of the current pandemic, we know there is a great need to mindful of the social-emotional needs of our staff and students. We have asked our teachers and staff to be aware of and sensitive to the emotional needs of our students, along with their educational needs.
We are implementing a Social-Emotional Learning curriculum, Sanford Harmony, in all classes. More information can be found below. We will continue to offer professional development and learning opportunities for our teachers and staff as to educate them on how to recognize and be sensitive to students' needs.
Sanford Harmony
The Meet-Up is a class meeting where members discuss given topics or things that are needed for their class.
The lesson is a weekly learning opportunity for students to gain information and skills to assist them in their own social-emotional development.
There are 5 units in this curriculum, which we have spread out for the school year.
September and October: Diversity and Inclusion
November and December: Empathy and Critical Thinking
January and February: Communications
March and April: Peer Relationships
May: Problem Solving
